Bit of fun, simple really - pick a five-a-side team from your club's squad, and hey, even pick two subs. ---------Reina-------- ----Agger-----Lucas--- Suarez--Gerrard Maxi, Johnson
reina is a must as fly goalie... no question. enrique as the one defender, cos he's got the pace to go it and doesn't panic but bes toff all retains possession. Lucas is the type you want to sit and pass it about and help the defender Gerrard would have been a must as the glory hog who shoots all the time but i actually think he's so far gone i'd go for maxi cos h is in the right place at the right time and has the vision too. suarez is a must up top. my subs would be johnson similar to enrique but not as good at the back and then I'd have to go for henderson for that ability to run all day.
pretty good line up there for newkie.... wouldn't like to meet that the utd line up says it all... two cbs, one of which is a giant ~(why vidic in 5 a side, why not rio for ball playing? just a question) two quality player up the pitch and no way to get it to them
Vidic to mark the opposition's attacker out of the game - if you're playing on a small pitch then a physical defender can mark a striker completely out of the game. That was my speciality in five a side - sitting on the opposition striker and hassling him enough to make sure he could never bring the ball under control Not much space to run into, so you can sit tight all day long. Jones, Nani and Rooney for the dynamicism - every time I've played five a side the team that wins is the one that can get up and down the pitch faster than the others. Those three would be far more effective than Lucas, Maxi and Suarez - by the time your Liverpool side had the ball in a strong attacking position the other team would have all its defenders back and you'd be shut out on a small pitch.
I think in 5-a-side, the team that has players equally adept in defending as well as attacking are the best rather than a rigid two defenders, a midfielder and a striker. In Rooney and Nani, the former could play all over the pitch without a problem, the ability to drop in defence if the latter doesn't feel like dropping back.
------Reina------- GJ---Agger---Jose ------Suarez---- ( Gerrard being out is why he is not in consideration)
This. You want players like Jones and Rooney who can track back and mark, knock the ball around well, and also finish a chance if they get it. It's rarely the striker who gets all the chances in five a side, it's the players arriving into space on the counter whilst everyone is focused on the man up front. Surprised none of the Liverpool fans have gone for Bellamy - I'd have pegged him as close to the ideal five a side player, although he may not have the legs for it any more.
Mine for Utd: De Gea Smalling Jones Giggs Rooney Nani is very skillful. But just think Giggs even though the legs are on the wane would have still the class and ability to do damage.
I can't see anyone beating mine tbh. Hart is a great goalkeeper, Nana and Silva have the skill and can create and score goals. Gerrard would be my midfield worker. Sturridge I would rate above Rooney now tbh.
Ideally, you'd have 4 Paul Scholes or Rooney's on the pitch. That would be perfect. Don't have to be a brilliant tackler but generally their positioning defensively is spot on. And I could go on all day about Scholes's touch, short passing, long passing, skill, vision, finishing, heading...
De Gea Jones Valencia Rooney Nani (Last year my answer would have been O'Shea, O'Shea, O'Shea, O'Shea, O'Shea)
Constecrap, Sturridge has a much better goals per game ratio than Rooney this season despite Chelsea struggling as a team. And I say that as a Man U fan.
