http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...fer-Qatari-Airways-stadium-naming-rights.html Tottenham have lined up Qatari Airways as potential sponsors for the new stadium the club want to build adjacent to White Hart Lane. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy reiterated his desire to stay in the area at the club's recent AGM and has now identified the airline, owned by the Qatari royal family, to put their name to the deal. The north London club need £400million to build the Northumberland Project Development â a 55,000-seater arena sited next to their current home. Levy has made it clear, however, that Tottenham require substantial private and public funding before the project can be given the green light. The club will de-list from the Alternative Investment Market in January as part of a plan to encourage investors to back the scheme which is hoped will put the club on an equal financial footing as Europeâs elite, according to the Telegraph. The Qatar Foundation currently sponsor Barcelona's shirts but the recent purchase of Paris St-Germain means they cannot buy more than 25 per cent of another club in European competition, according to UEFA regulations. On the club's decision to become a privately owned company again. Levy said: 'Football clubs should not be public companies. It is not a business model the institutions are interested in.' When asked what would happen if there was a plan B if the full funding was not found, Levy replied: 'There is no (other) option or time limit. We will find a way to make it happen. 'I am absolutely determined to bring a new stadium to Tottenham.' -------------------------- Saw this morning but surprised no1 mentioned it on here.
I actually saw this on another site.Looks like Levy is determined to get it going, which can only be good news. The name would be interesting though!
Well the Qataris own Harrods now. They are obviously only interested in premium "products." Weren't they tied in with our OS bid?
وايت هارت لين (A little phonetic translation would help - hint, hint Google...)
If we get the stadium we are all hoping for, we will not only be the most powerful club in London, but we will be perennial title challengers. There are truly exciting times ahead, for our great club.
Blimey! Steady on, Chirps! You'll soon be suggesting to the Gooners and the Mickey Mousers that I'm not a wum.
Unfortunately, Ensil, the whole of the Western World is tainted with petro-dollars. Any pool of money of a certain size is tainted in some foul way. It is naive to believe otherwise.
If what we are reading is true, how long before they would want more than just naming rights. Levy is a money man and even if it is petrodollars would the enticement of mega bucks be too much.
I understand your objections Ens; Unfortunately The conflict in the middle east seems no closer to a solution and a good point well made about food production. Irrigation of the desert is surely a better use of money than buying up large chunks of West London? The problem is, there are four main sources of potential funding: The Chinese, Americans, Russians and Arabs. All come with baggage of one description or another (and I'm not talking about the matching Louis Vuitton luggage!) The fact remains that we need a big bag of money and we need it sooner rather than later. As for buying a World Cup, I am sure most countries would if they could. The problem is that it's for sale....
Surely, all the Arabs will get is the right to name the stadium for a certain period of time (ie. it's a sponsor deal)? They won't own the actual stadium or the land that it's built on, and they won't have any control of the actual football club. I can't see what the problem is. Sure, I'd prefer that British Airways bought the naming rights, but I doubt they have much money to burn.
Remind me please. How much is Adebarndoor getting paid per week and who is paying half? Tell me your size and I'll order you a nice AFC shirt
I don't like Arabs at all but if they want to give us a cash inflow I'm all for it! It sounds like a lot of jobs for people in Tottenham and that can't be bad! The thought of 35,000 in the Spurs ground instead of the 50,000 who should be in there makes me want to spit nails! Thank heaven they put a lot of our games on telly these days.....
The Qatari investment authority (majority stakeholder in Qatar Airways) already has a majority stake in PSG so I can't see how they would be allowed to take a controlling stake in another European club.
You live in one that bought an Olympics. What, we're not supposed to say that, even with various IOC delegates being found to have taken bribes? It's not as if it's a story that's come to light recently, either: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...ses-britain-of-bribing-ioc-voters-474848.html
Probably one of the most ridiculous comments i've ever seen on this or any forum. Blaming every Arab for what may have happened to your friends/family is exactly the sort of attitude red-neck Americans and angry Arabs who hate whole races and countries have and gets the world nowhere.
