I don't believe much of what Ferguson has said, in the sense that he believes we're contenders, he is just using this as a chance to praise another team that in reality he doesn't see as much of a threat as I suspect in his mind he knows teams will slowly start to drift out of the title race.

Yes it's nice to hear but we don't need to be told that we're playing some great football as we seen it ourselves and got the results to match.

Are we title contenders? I very much doubt it, it reminds me of Newcastle under Bobby Robson in which they would float about 2nd and 3rd, look like they were contenders but never really have that extra quality and steel to actually finish 1st.

Its great that we're up there but we won't win the title this year but if we keep this team together and add to it then next year we will have a great shout.

 

Only the entire football media, which is geared to the notion the Premier League is Manchester United, A.N. Other, seventeen other clubs and the promoted side that gets patronised every season...

It's obvious why United get the most media coverage, it is because they are the current champins and have won it the most. The same applied when Liverpool dominated the old league, it's what happens.

 

Care to explain why they got more coverage when Blackburn/Arsenal/Chelsea were reigning champions?

You know why I say you're insecure? Because you assume my post implies I care what Alex Ferguson says. I don't.

I care that Sky, MOTD et al have decided seventeen of the Premier League's participants don't matter, just like I care that X-Factor has made 99% of all music nothing more than potential cover versions for whoever wins it.

 

My post implies nothing of the sort, my post merely pointed out why United get the lions share of the media coverage.

It is YOUR insecurity that makes you want to defend yourself and crack on like you don't really care, which of course you sodding well do as you wouldn't have made the post in the first place and gone on about it since.

I wouldn't say United did get more coverage than Arsenal or Chelsea. Are you honestly telling me you've never heard the media wetting their pants about Arsenal's alleged superior football. Or Mourinho?

Blackburn? They are what they are, sorry. We'd lost the title to them and then won it right back. The dear old media obviously decided that was bigger news, what can you do.

Am I the only one who senses a slight degree of tension among the United fans on this site? We never used to come in for this kind of spiteful mauling.

Then again, we've never looked more likely to finish above United in the EPL than we have this season.

As for Fergie, I can't say that I've agreed with everything he's ever said or done, but I cannot deny that the man has been, and remains, a footballing genius. Sure, the £ity-effect has put new pressure on him, since they have countless millions to spend, at a time when United has been trying to reign-in their debt, and that has caused an imbalance in the "Top 4" old-guard. But Fergie faced the same pressure when Chelsea's Russian playboy came in and bought them success; and Fergie learned to adapt, rendering their endless millions somewhat redundant. I have little doubt that, given time, he'll sort £ity out, too. I admire his tenacity as much as I do his tactical genius.
