No Cabaye for West Brom.

I don't see us scoring goals or winning on Wednesday with this formation and Personnel very defensive tactics Tiote and Abeid are defensive midfielders, Jonas plays as a Left Back and Obertan hardly creates anything we will be relying heavily on Ben Arfa and Ba to create and score.

 

I reckon it'll be a straight swap Abeid or Vuckic for Cabaye. However I think Ben Arfa is due a start and could possibly replace Best upfront. Does anyone know how long Raylor is out for? Or was it just a week long thing?

 

Jonas wasnt anywhere near as defensive playing with Santon. I agree that Abeid and Tiote is too defensive though, Vuckic is the one I'd go for.

 

Raylor was just a knock on friday, might miss WBA but not long term.

 

From what i've seen and heard of him, Abeid is more box to box, a bit like Meireles, and therefore an attacking threat as well.

With Santon, who is great at attacking, we have something more like Jonas and Enrique had, which worked well as a means of getting goals, also Jonas got forward a fair amount last game.

Obertan can either be great or useless, if West Brom are attacking us then i can see Obertan being able to use his pace to get up the pitch and create something (see Stoke game.) Simpson will be able to get forward too if we're attacking and he's put in a couple of decent crosses this season.

Besides, even if it is defensive, we'll need to be a bit more with Perch at CB. He had a great game against Swansea but wasn't particularly tested (when he was he managed to make a good tackle though) and i'd feel if he was got at a bit more then he'd be more likely to make a mistake.

 

I cannot believe how over-aggressive people are being. Even Man City play with a bit of restraint guys, this isn't FIFA.

Tiote on his own in central midfield is asking for trouble. Personally I would play Vuckic and have Benny in the hole with Ba on his own up front...

 

I've said before, Ben Arfa has been poor this season, but I'd have him on the RW over Obertan any day.

 

Has anyone actually seen enough of Abeid to decide 'he's defensive', or is this coming from FIFA?

 

We played him in a defensive position against Forest, dont know if he's even on FIFA.

 

He is on FIFA but he's only a CM on it.

Id play Abeid for Cabaye, I'm pretty sure he plays more box to box for the reserves and the Forest game was rare one off to get first game time. Also I see Vuckic more of a player like Ben arfa in the hole.

Would like to see Vuckic ahead of Abeid as he is more attacking, plus I feel he has been waiting for his opportunity to get a chance for a longer period of time. He has the right staturefor the PL and I'd hate it if he left with out being given a fair chance to impress!

 

What people need to remember is playing a diamond is all well and good if you've got wingers who are prepared to tuck in and act as CM's when we're on the back foot. Obertan and Jonas aren't CM's so I can't see a diamond working playing those two, we'd be far too stretched in CM and West Brom would just play straight through us. If they decide to put in three CM's Tiote would be outnumbered 3vs1 Wouldn't work people, sorry.

I think it was clear by Pards bringing Vuckic off the bench that he's the next one in the pecking order for us in CM so I'd expect him to start alongside Tiote. Ben Arfa is clearly out of favour so unless Best is injured, I'd expect the same team to start vs WBA than Swansea with just a straight swap, Vuckic for Cabaye. We battered Swansea and on another day we could have won 4-0, West Brom carry more of a threat than Swansea though so if we don't take our chances in this game we WILL get beat. Let's hope someone other than Ba brings their shooting boots to this one.
