I don't know if anyone spotted this article in the programme yesterday, but it seems that the Club has taken action at Walsall to crack down on some of the unpleasant behaviour and chanting at away matches Good news, hopefully those individuals won't get tickets for the Fulham match...
I was at Walsall and didn't hear anything particularly offensive, just a derogatory description of the general Walsall area and also the condition of the ground and the lack of home fans. As I didn't see the article, any chance of a bullet point rundown, k&f?
That's excellent news and well done to the club for taking action, do you know what action the article said the club is taking? One reason I don't like going to away games nowadays is because of the anti social behaviour from some fans who think they can get away with it.
Good spot, just found that in the programme. Pleasing to see action is being taken, we don't need those type of fans.
There were a few singing something about Kevin Lisibe but I couldn't make out the words. It had the same tune as that one they sing about Ambrose taking it up the backside
The programme article didn't go into specifics, but mentioned that as a result of complaints at earlier matches, Charlton had staff in the away end and in the Walsall control box. There were one or two 'bl*ck b*stard" comments, there were constant random screams of "f88king c**t" at opposition players, someone kicking the seat in front of him pretty hard...all rather unpleasant.
Another example of the club overreacting and being all nice and PC when a tut and a shrug of the shoulders is all that is needed. Who on earth does this club want following us? Are they forgetting that they tried to sanistise the support in the Prem when all the tourists turned up from Gillingham in their barbour jackets hiding their Man U T shirts, What did they do for the club?, they moaned and complained and forced out a decent manager and pizzed off when we went down. The hardcore true fans stayed and went to wallsall and I have NEVER heard black b888tard being chanted. Its a working class game and environment, of course your gonna have naughty words exchanged FFS. They should be honoured to have such a vocal away support. Any more dillution of this club and we could end up like Palace, a nothing club, with nothing to say. Get real CAFC and remember who pays can say. The fans always police themselves and to try and score PC points to get the plastics back is cutting your throat with a spoon.
I remember hearing this in the PL and a group at the back were chanting something similar would you believe at Chris Powell. It made the whole atmosphere uncomfortable since it was groups involved. I am really pleased the club is taking action against this form of anti social behaviour which most fans, irregardless of background or social standing find unpleasant and intimidating. It's easier for it to be actioned it at the Valley and to be reported as I always do but I find it really reassuring that people are now doing something at aways eg fans, rather than doing nothing and that the staff are taking notice.
Got to be honest the fans singing all the 'offensive chants' are generally the fans making the most noise throughout the game. Get rid of them and the atmosphere at away games will drop. A stern warning would be enough I reckon.
There's nothing worse than personal abuse, I wonder how many people would put up with it at work. There's a difference between making a noise and supporting the team and making offensive comments, intimidating other fans spoiling their enjoyment of the game so the sooner the club gets rid of these types the better.
Absolute right. Get rid of those that make any noise at all. Mkae everyone stand in silence, that'll stop it. One mans abuse is another mans banter. Where do you stop? Then you stop all the rugby songs for equal balance, oh and the xmas jokes on the coach in case not everyone enjoys xmas and the playing of DVD's on the away coaches that may contain swear words or a flash of a table leg for fear of upsetting the woman supporters. This club owes its very existence to its fans (most of them were common and swore) so when the puddle jumpers that write our programme give back their complimentary tickets and free coach trips and not sit in the exective boxes eating prawn sandwiches (thanks Roy) and mix with the REAL fans they may realise that this is a peoples game with naughty words and pasties.
Replying to myself (!) these weren't 'chants', they were isolated individuals, shouting out nasty abuse, and usually without provocation (i.e. it wasn't as if the opposition player did a horrible tackle to provoke the crowd ). Nobody is trying to stop chants with rude words, e.g. the Bonfire song or the 'f8cking quality' Chris Solly song etc.
I didn't know fans have to conform to your stereotype to be 'real', all you seem to do is insult people who disagree with your views by name calling and belittling. Some of the fans I met who get upset by this type of abuse of players, one incidentally was given personal abuse at the Valley for being black, have been going for years and paid into schemes like Valley Gold as well as supported the club through thick and thin. Presumably these people are of no importance whatsoever in your experience and just a little tut tut tut stops it all. Well these people don't care about that and it needs zero tolerance and firm action and I compliment those who are at last complaining and not putting up with it anymore.
I have been to every game this season home and away.and have noticed how we have some idiots in amongst our following...I witnessed someone giving the Walsall goalkeeper a foul mouthed tirade.....He was removed and quite rightly so...I can take swearing etc and accept working mans sport etc but the Adams family song, what relevance has it to football?...cant believe any normal person would sing this or is it me????????....
Have to be honest, randomly screaming out and swearing (whether its just swearing our using racial insults) I find disgusting. I remember being repulsed at Notts County last year when I saw a few of our fans screaming '**** off you ****ers!' etc at the family stand which consisted of about 70% young children. Bad language in chants I have no problem with however.
