On today's display, could anyone see either of those teams, finishing in any other position than bottom, were they in the PL right now? Abysmal.
Don't compare us to one another as there is a clear gulf in quality which your manager is well aware of playing 1 up front alone. Southampton would clearly fare better in the pl just as they have in the championship.
I do not think that the pitch or strong wind helped the game and I think the pressure got to the players. Still a point each will see everyone on both boards not too distraught which is great, however I am still disappointed we let a lead slip.
Local derby....... meowth....... form goes out the window. We got a point which is better than nowt. I wasn't there but I gather Saints had the chances to win. We have gone off the boil, your lot have just hit a bit of form. So bragging rights are for now even on this game. See you in a few weeks when we hope the tide will turn back in our favour. Good hunting for the rest of the season except of course when you next play us......
and you still played for the 3 points.....................................................not really though.
Lambert also owns a freezer full of pasties/pies/kebabs/burgers, etc, judging by his girth. Good goal though..........
Very few championship games can be watched on tele in Oz so was delighted to be able to stay up half the night to watch this one. A very good result for Portsmouth & reward for effort and commitment. On the day we got a point from the better side. Saints had the ability to make time for themselves on the ball whilst Pompey apppeared to be constantly under pressure and had little 'solid' possession. The exception was Kitson who I thought played well and often showed the strength and skill to bring the ball down and hold play up until support arrived. I was a little disappointed with Henderson's distribution. Basically too much hoof up the middle and very little throwing/tapping to the back four or mid-fieild. However, this may be the comment of a television spectator if Southampton's marking was closing off his options 'off camera.' The two WBA loans appear to have potential. Hopefully some of it will be fulfilled before they leave Fratton Park. The big flaw appeared to be the control of mid field. Mullins, Ward, and to a lesser extent Norris are good challengers for the 50-50 balls but appear always to be under pressure on the ball. Lawrence appeared to be, as he is, short of a recent run and perhaps he may partially resolve the weakness in this area when returning to fitness. I notice Kanu was not on the bench. Is he injured? Although the frenetic pace of a derby game may have been a bit much for him at this stage, one of his cameos in the last 20minutes could have imposed a little more control. Anyway a tense game if not great football and a useful point. PUP
At the time,Henderson could have been said to be at fault for Tubby's goal, I thought he should have come and claimed the ball or at least drawn a foul off Tubby. However, seeing it again on TV, our defence was far too deep cogesting the 6 yard box,we should have been much higher up in the 18 yard box.PUP, honours even ,I can live with that until April 2012
Yes, I think we can all live with honours even so well said SB3. April is a long way off and lots to play for until then. Best of luck to both sides.
