as confirmed by the gaffer..hope we have Bale back and how would yu play it? bale modric parker VDV? defoe(if fit) and ADE?
VDV isn't a winger, he needs to be behind ade. There really isn't a perfect answer as we need two wingers, its key to our success and we have no backup on the wing. If we still want pace on the wing then you use walker and bale as wing backs, sandro and parker in the middle with modric and then vdv behind ade BUT 5-3-2 is a formation that is easy to pick holes in so its a massive gamble. Whatever happens we need to win the midfield battle and make sure ade has the right support so this is were redknapp shows us if our squad can handle injuries.
I would be tempted to try wingbacks again. Need pace on the wings but walker does get forward well. He could probably play rw actually
no he isnt a winger but he has played there for us this year and comes central and forever rotating with defoe...
we do need that pace as it rips up defences and puts them on the back foot..however do you think against chelsea HR would go for such a formation or will he go for something more solid and hope that our class shows
ok on paper Friedal Gallas King Kaboul Walker Bale (wing backs) Sandro Parker Modric VDV ADE It looks good and gives us pace, strong centre and if we get it right it can work but the problem is that formation really does leave you open if the opposition pick holes in it BUT chelsea are an old team, have very little pace so it could be a real option
but a very experienced unit nevertheless thats why ithink HR will start cautiously with the option of switching to wing backs as the game develops and we start to pick holes in the defence
No i dont think arry will go with wing backs as if that was in his mind he would have changed formation today when lennon went off. The worry is that he goes 4-4-2 and then sticks modric and vdv on the wings as we will end up playing into Chelseas hand as they do have quality and experience so we cant just write them off.
That's exactly the same formation I proposed in a thread I started about alternative formations, and it was the formation that Harry reverted to in the second half against Stoke, which brought us great results and would have won us the game, had it not been for the incompetence of the ref and his assistants. It would leave holes, that Chelsea are more than capable of exploiting, but it would also give us plenty of opportunities at their goal, especially on the break. I think Harry would only be tempted to try that formation, though, if King is fit, as we would need our CBs to be solid. Both Sandro and Parker would have to work their socks off all game, tracking-back and closing down anything that came through the middle of the park.
or VDV upfront just behind ADE with andros townsend on the left and bale on the right? i think if we get our team formation right then we really can take chelsea to the cleaners..i dont rate them highly..they just have the aura of past seasons still lingering with them....this is why the formation we play on thursday is fascinating me....and it was quite simple had we not lost Lennon....but now lets see HR earn his corn
Against Chelsea, width will be key (and width with pace, which rules out VDV and Niko.) If we try and win in a midfield slugfest we come off second best. Maybe Rose playing in front of BAE? For me this is our key game of the season so far. Three points put us a potential eight points in front of Chelsea, should we win our game in hand.
A win against Chelsea, and they are going to struggle to finish in the top 4 this season, whereas we can afford to lose it (provided that we win our game in hand). The advantage is very much with us, and we need to be pressing it home, if we are serious about challenging for the title - and I think we should be.
Chelsea, whilst fragile at the back, still have plenty to hurt us going forward - Drogba has a knack of scoring against us, Sturridge is playing really well - then add in others like Mata and it could be a problem. The wing back idea seems solid as it gives us a bit extra in defence, whilst still providing the team with pace and width - 2 things which'll be key for beating Chelsea this time around I think.
Think Townsend is the obvious solution as has been said.Playing him on the left and Bale on the right we don't have to change the way we play.
I agree, its all about winning the midfield battle againts Chelski. I would also (like the Boss) include 'Sandro' if only to break-up their play. He had an excellent game today and his tackling skills would relieve some of the presure that will undoubtably be put on Parker.
I can't see Redknapp putting Townsend in ahead of so many more experienced options. He should definitely be on the bench and any thoughts of him being loaned out should be put on hold, though.
So people are thinking about a sort of 5-4-1 diamond, then? Friedel Kaboul King Gallas Walker -------------------------- Bale Sandro Parker ------------------ Modric Van der Vaart Adebayor Something like that?
