I feel as though I've been taken totally for granted as a supporter who made the effort to get there today. I was sat in my seat at 2.15 and both sets of players were out warming up. Must say I didn't see the officials out there warming up or the sprinklers being turned on either.
The pitch looked playable, I personally didn't see a problem.
There were plenty on the concourse, not so many in their seats but by 2.45 the ground was filling up including 200 or so Watford fans. Then people were looking at their phones and saying the game was off! The 'technical area' didn't suddenly become frozen at 2.45 this afternoon, and such a small problem area could have easily have been sorted of out if there was a will to do so.
If so the kick off could have been delayed a few minutes whilst some rock salt, or matting could have been placed over the frozen areas, and you cannot tell me a stadium sponsored by a building supplies company doesn't carry a stock of rock salt?
It's not good enough City, and I feel not only for those Watford fans but for all those who made the effort to get there today, after all what sort of weather do they expect to come up against the first week in January?
Shoddy treatment all round.
Doesn't anyone on the ground staff look at the weather forecasts?

Agree it's poor, not sure why the ref couldn't delay the kick off by 30 mins to give them time to sort it, but given what happened at Withernsea the other night I guess we should just be thankful for what we have and take this one on the chin as a crap day.

Events like that really but things into perspective for me, haven't stopped thinking about how frightened that poor girl must have been and how her mum must have felt. Gut wrenching.

Today's farce just pales into insignificance for me to be honest.
Sad and tragic as the events in Withernsea were Jim but todays farce is no comparison at all. Today was totally avoidable and today people, customers, fans were taken totally for granted, the person or people taking the decision to call todays game off didn't give a second thought to those people. It is disgraceful and questions should be asked because it is not good enough.

I'm not saying it's comparable mate, just that I really can't force myself to be annoyed, or angry. I was awake until 3am last night just thinking about that incident and reading comments and eye witness stuff. Probably my own fault for going down the rabbit hole but when the game was called today I just didn't care. Finished my pint and walked back into town.

I'm fully respectful that it's messed around a lot of people but few more than the Watford fans who were in good spirits in the station (the ones I spoke to).

That was abandoned because of fog which the club had no control over, I was there, today was called off through negligence.
It certainly seems the ref gave them notice the touchlines were still too hard and they got the blow torch out. Professional groundsmen should know what he would have been expecting. I also can't believe a local ref wasn't called in at 10am to advise them.

we were sat in the West stand, we could see clearly the players leaving the pitch early from the warm up and the Watford players heading over to the away fans. This was just after 2.35pm.

So clearly the decision to call off the game had been taken, but it took up until 2.50 pm for the stadium announcement to be made.

Did they delay the announcement to get revenue in from the food and drink sales I wonder? Bit of a conspiracy theory I know but there would have been a lot of wastage.

Not announcing in the stadium until ten to is really shoddy.

The club managed to put it on X at 20 to; Radio Humberside was saying it was postponed minutes later.

Why were fans in the ground the last to know?

I went and looked behind the dugouts before leaving, Acun looked to be furious when I had a peek at the owners box. I don't think we did it intentionally, but how on earth could the club not have cleared this little bit of ice, in the space of 5 hours or whatever??? (stole the pic off twitter)

Equally, the players could grow a pair and get the **** on with it.

Its so pathetic.

It’s been almost 2deg all day so was never going to soften , in fact as the sun goes it re freezes . Pitch looked fine but fringes off the pitch looked solid .

Well that’s my once yearly game not happening before heading back to the southern hemisphere, typical! Probably does help us out a lot though I feel your pain won

Whilst you have a point Jim this is also complete ****e, football forum about football, on the same metric it’s a shame about the Middle East and Ukraine.

Well within our rights to discuss the issues that effected the game today on the match day thread.

The tragedy at Withernsea had weighed heavily with me too and I'm sure all our thoughts are with the people effected. But today was totally avoidable. I remember the days, and have been involved in them when the club and fans worked through the night burning braziers on the pitch and covering it with straw to enable a game to go ahead. That was in the days when the club depended on fans paying cash at the turnstiles on a matchday to pay the wages. Today, the club have the cash up front, if the game goes ahead or not, so we, the paying customers are secondary, and like today, taken for granted.
No matter how todays postponement is dressed up it was totally avoidable, amateurishly handled, and shockingly late announced.
Not good for football at all and we deserve better.
