It is 100% because if they are dropped or roll between seats they can become a dangerous hazard with the lid on. Trust me I was sent the DCMS email all clubs in all sports received at the time. It's OK for you not to be right about something for once ffs.

On icy conditions. Did anyone go to the night game at Bolton a few years ago one Christmas?. .We drew 2-2. From been 2 down at h/t. The walk from the pub to the stadium was like walking on a skating ring. I was literally hanging onto the railings to keep on two feet. Then the drive back that night along the M62 was in a snowstorm. Took about twice as long as normal. Recall passing an overturned car on the west bound carriageway that had resulted in the driver losing his or her life. Sobering reminder to take it easy..

Luxury ( apart from the RTA) The coldest game I've been to was at Wittons Albions ground one freezing fog bound Tuesday night for the FA Cup replay of City v Runcorn. For a start the ground is in the middle of the countryside, or was, and the freezing fog left a layer of frost on everything including the crush barriers on the open terracing. It was arctic conditions all night with the players just about visible, I've never been so cold and there was nowhere to get under cover or any warmth from.
Barring Chris Hargreaves one and only goal goal for us in a one nil win.

Night match at MK Dons' old Hockey Ground (2004?) takes some beating. Grown men were weeping.
That sounds like a Caribbean holiday in comparison to MK Dons at the old hockey stadium, in around 2004 ish...Game played on a pitch covered by at least two inches of snow...Started snowing after about 10 mins and didn't let up for another 40.....About 500 City fans gathered together in the open end, with zero protection from the elements, huddled there like penguins trying to shield from the windchill of an Arctic blast.
The one and only time I got a freebie staff ticket.
