How he missed the chance I will never know. We're going to rue our missed chances today I just know it.

As a fifth choice centre back he ain't that bad. Most other PL clubs don't even have five centre backs! He's only playing cos we're missing Vidic, Rafael, Fabio and Fletcher. If even one of those was fully fit Evans would be on the bench.

The desires not always there with him anymore you see him lose the ball or be caught out of position and he rarely makes an effort to get back and help make up for his error; he's also too easy to get past these days i think the worst right wingers in the league could give him a hard time these days. Won't give up on him yet though as they say class is permanent hopefully this is just a poor run of form

This. We need a left back to put some pressure on Evra - he's the picture of complacency at the moment. I thought Evans did pretty well today - none of the team were particularly clinical with their finishing.

At least our central defender decided to attack some crosses and get his head on corners. We generally don't do that even with Vidic there.

Evans had a good game yet people still criticise him. I know he isn't a fans favourite with some people but this is ridiculous. What more do you bloody want? Our best defender in Vidic is out. Our first choice genuine RB is out so we have to move our 3rd choice CB to RB and our 5th choice CB comes in and plays pretty much flawlessly. <doh>

    Pretty much flawlessly?
He's looks like a liability every second. He rarely gets into scoring positions, (he shouldn't need to as a centre back) but he's had a few sitters this season. Hes always either not tight enough and panics into rash challenges or he's too tight giving away little pushes and niggles.
Today was his best game for ages I'll agree but still not united standard, even 5th choice.

The only thing he did wrong was not score. Other than that, he made every challenge well and won pretty much all of his headers.

Haters just want to hate no matter what.

Completely agree. Dunno what planet people are on if they think Evans isn't good enough to be our fifth choice CB. Wonder if they'd rather have Squillaci...

Totally agree, makes me wonder if some people watch the same game sometimes.

They are pairings, 5th choice would seem like you have 10 CBs, He's 3rd maybe? Rio Vidic Jones Smalling Evans and ?

Not really. If you're talking about pairings then the choice would probably be, assuming we have everyone else fully fit:

    Vidic and Rio
    Vidic and Jones
    Vidic and Smalling
    Rio and Jones
    Rio and Smalling
    Vidic and Evans

So he'd be in the sixth choice pairing all else being equal. Either way, we'd need three CBs either unavailable or playing in different positions before he'd be in the team imo, although not sure if I'd take Smalling and Jones above Evans and one of them, due to their lack of experience.

Probably Carrick and Evans based on Carrick playing CB in 2009/10 when we had a similar defensive crisis. But under the same system, what other PL teams have a better third choice option? Savic, Coates, Ferreira, Squillaci? None of those names really inspire confidence - they're all either very inexperienced or far more inconsistent and worse than Evans.

The second bit of that post wasn't aimed at you. Just the first bit about missing the chance- in that noone attacks the ball from corners or we don't put in a lot of quality balls but yesterday was different. The crosses were decent enough but at least Evans attacked them. The first chance he really should have scored but the 2nd header was unlucky. Not to mention we had another cleared off the line, can't remember who's header that was though.

Normally I too would be giving him grief because he usually deserves it but Evans was my MOM V QPR.I thouht he was outstanding at the back and could have scored a hatrick to go with his Imperial display, he looked like the player we all thought he was going to be 2 years ago.
