6 points clear of 7th place, 4th in the league, team looking good, money to spend in Jamuary, sod it, im getting carried away. Premier league next season and a team capable of consolidation for a few seasons. Dare to dream....too bloody right
Nothing to suggest we aren't promotion material. The likes of Leeds and Cardiff who are below us will still consider themselves serious contenders, so we're going to have to accept it sooner or later, we're in for a good season.
I'll wait to see if we're up there come the Spring. Not putting a dampner on it, but still a way to go yet and we do need to strengthen come the January window. I'm enjoying watching the lads this season.
The only problem is, the Premier League was sh1te. Of course I want my team to do as well as possible and reach their highest possible level but lets face it - it was rubbish and hence I'm torn regarding whether or not I'd want promotion. Cue all the posts about typical small minded Hull attitude and settling for mediocrity but I don't care - this season is already much more enjoyable than any spent in the Prem with a team made up of people who seem to care about the club and its fans rather than mercenaries who only set foot in the city on matchdays looking to their next transfer literally as soon as the ink is dry.
I agree, if they owners and management do it right, then the first season is a stepping stone to develop the team slowly but surely. First season you may come back down again, but you use the extra revenue to develop the team over say a 5 year period.
I'm pleasantly surprised, I thought when Pearson went it would be the end of our season really & that we'd have to tread water until Nicky found his feet.. but he's managed things really well.. With Pearson we had many draws but Nicky's attacking ethic is turning into 3 points - over 3 games you are better off winning 2 and losing one than drawing all three. I think we should make Donny an offer for Billy Sharp in January..
I don't think it needs too much in the window. A striker is the priority I reckon, and some cover at the back. Maybe a cheeky look at the loan market too (unless Brady's stay is extended of course) and I think we're equipped to march into the 2nd half of the season. We're gonna have to scrap it out though with other big Championship clubs to get who we want I feel (Leicester, Boro, Saints), so patience & understanding required from the fans if 1st choices aren't secured.
I'm becoming more and more confident by the game, and if we're still where we are now at the end of January we can start looking towards a promotion push. There's plenty of things in our favour, there's no real pressure on us to go up like there is at West Ham, Leicester etc and we're the dark horses in the prmotion race. Our squad has a real sense of togetherness, we have a match winner in Koren, an increasingly solid midfield and a reliable defence. We need to add another striker or two up front but things are looking very good now, hopefully we'll keep it up. This winning streak says a lot about Barmby and the players' attitudes, after the 2 defeats against Burnley and Southampton we've picked ourselves up again and look stronger than we have done for a while.
