After hearing NB saying on Blunderside tonight that he thinks Daws should have a new contract, my advice is don't be hasty wait and see where we are in May and how they have done/we have done and where will we be next season. Nobody is going to be rushing in for him or Garcia so the right thing for the club is not to rush and bide our time. The priority for getting under contract has to be Koren .
As long as no one's on mega bucks that is likely to cripple the Club, renewing the contracts of the likes of Daws and Garcia is not a worry. Korens has already triggered an extension to his contract to 2013.
I would agree with this if it was still Duffen in charge and handing out the contracts that they are likely to hand out. But if it is AP in charge of renewals it is clear that he will not hand our contracts that will cripple us and if a sentimental one is handed out it will be on far reduced wages.
Personally although I believe Daws`s legs are going, his old head along the back four has definitely helped calm things down, I think he is certainly worth a further year, Garcia still has to convince me that he is over the worst of his injury, contract to the end of the season would be sufficient, then weigh up the pro`s and cons then, gauging this with where we are going to be plying our trade next season (prem or champ). As has been said Koren is already contracted to 2013, and i`m certain that close season they`ll be looking to add at least a year onto this.
People have been going on about Garcia alot recently... I find this ironic as he was by far and away our most slated player over the last few seasons... and it was always me who stood up for him. I think he's got a good cross on him, he finds himself in goal scoring positions and he's good with his head. Despite all of the above what's made everyone else suddenly care about his potential contract renewal? After all, surely he won't be getting into the team ahead of Stewart... and what's to say Garcia can play left wing? I can't remember seeing him there.
Too much sentimentalism here, last year at Preston I think he scored his first goal in 56 (ish) games!! WTF for a front player by anyone's standards that's poor. I'll go with him having the right attitude and experience around the young lads but I think we need a little bit more to get up. UTT
