You would think it wouldn’t matter how many trips you make if you are getting rid of rubbish , I take loads to the tip for old lasses who haven’t got a car, the bus service is s hit round here, some villages only have one bus a day, how do they expect them to get rubbish to the tip. Now you are only allowed 4 bags of rubble and then you pay £2.50 each for any extra bags. Then they wonder why our country roads are piled high with crap and they pay millions out a year to get it taken to the tip
The local council here introduced the online booking system during covid but then kept it as it probably put a lot off people going. It certainly has reduced the number of people popping over from bordering counties to use our tip Residents are only allowed 4 visits in a month, oh and it costs £3.20 for each 25L bag after you've used your 100L bag allowance. I prefer it now, as the queues are non existent but I'm not sure that it helps with fly tipping, in fact I'm pretty sure that it costs more for the council to clean up after them.
When local tips were opened I thought they would be grateful for any thing. My nearest is a few miles down the road so I went there, he asked me my address and said you can’t use this one you live in the South Lakes you have to take it there, even though it’s miles away. That’s when I knew it wasn’t really to cut waste mileage down just another box ticked.
We just phone up, book an appointment and they collect it from the house, albeit might be a few weeks later. 7 x big bags. No charge. Allowed 4 of these before you start getting charged.
I am in same boat , got my rubbish, 2 daughters, brother who's had a stroke and occasionally some old people my wife helps, normally give their address if going to many times in a short period of time, all Sunderland.
I am not even sure if ours let you take other people’s in, I thought there could be a business earner there for someone to set up, but then you have to have a license! so people round here just give it to anyone to take as they can’t get it in and they just dump it on the country roads. They literally just drive up a country road and lift the back of the flat bed and keep driving. I have a road near me that’s blocked most of the time with rubbish.
They came up with a similar idea here, it failed miserably. you can imagine you are working north Lancashire but they make the lad working to go and weigh his van which is about 15 miles away then go and do the job drive back to get the van weighed again and then go to the tip. So to take a bag of rubbish to the tip ends up costing about £75. Hello country lane.
I used to have a garage in a block, one day I found a load of rubbish had been dumped at the end, they had also filled up an empty garage with old tyres and asbestos
We are 4 a month, the problem is going to a weigh bridge before and after each job, can double the bill.
And people wonder why there is so much fly tipping, if political class had half a brain they would be dangerous
You have to do that in South Tyneside. My son asked me to take some stuff to the tip and he needed my car reg to create an appointment. You can just turn up at County Durham tips, but there's often a queue.
