I think at the time Matazo was the midfielder we really needed in a poor side where the centre of the park was without any kind of structure.

I do think if we’d have had a consistent midfield of Matazo and Puerta we’d have eased to safety.

How Matazo fits in this season is anyone’s guess. Lundstram kind of has that role now, we don’t know if Matazo is better but it’s a nice issue to have.

I'd rather be surprised by how good he is than think he's the second coming and be disappointed as some seem to think.

Matazo put some effort in when others weren’t.

Puerta would have been an absolute boss in this team counter attacking the way we do, shame we couldn’t sign him really.

We didn't really see enough of Matazo to make a solid judgement, but what we did see was encouraging.

Worth remembering his pedigree, the two games he played before he joined us, were against PSG and Arsenal (in the Champions League).

I think when (more likely if) everyone is fit we'll have McBurnie up front, Millar and Belloumi on the wings, Gelhardt behind McBurnie so that leave 2 from Lundstram, Hadzi, Slater, Crooks, Matazo and possibly Zambrano. Could end up being our strongest position

I think if everyone stays fit you probably end up leaving Zambrano where he is til at least the summer (if we get him at all)

If you know a bit about football then it's often immediately obvious that a player is quality. How they move, receive a pass, strike a ball etc. They make things look easy.

    Matazo looks the business.

There are plenty of neat and tidy players who are technically sound but can't consistently impose themselves and impact a game. It's those who can do that consistently who succeed.

Not saying Matazo is that, but I would reserve judgment until we've seen a bit more prior to declaring him a world beater.

Lots of folk fawned over Allahyar after his first few games but he never kicked on.

Matazo has made a promising start, and I'm excited for his return, but that's all at the moment.

We do this all the time. He’s Schrödinger’s midfielder at present. Unobserved he remains simultaneously both brilliant and a massive disappointment and it’s only when we open the box and actually see him play again that we find out. I’ll reserve judgment until then, but hopefully he’ll be brilliant.

He played Sunderland’s midfield off the park. Dan Neil, Enzo Le Fee and Bellingham and he was by far and away the best
