Horrible equaliser last night, but we're in the mix now, 5 points off 4th atm, win this and it pings us right into there and gives us a good springboard for the mackems game. We should win, but if we don't we don't, we don't have the right to be guaranteed any wins, and it's just one game not the entire season. That said, Burnley's away record is hideous and this should be straightforward, Bruno and Gordon back starting and hopefully Wissa on bench.
When I watch Newcastle, particularly against these so-called low blocks, unless we score in the first half an hour the players seem to wither into this “oh, well, here we go again, we’re not gonna score” body language. Bruno last night grabbed the team by the balls as nobody else seemed to have any confidence they’d score, Murphy and Barnes the worst culprits. Is it a mentality? Or just an ability issue in that we’re relying on Howe to get them playing above their clear limitations? That’s always going to have its issues as average players can’t keep high levels up.
Be interesting to see how the results fall tonight, could leave us right in the mix or starting to drift! For me this is an absolute must win and probably the start of a “must win” period with Leverkusen, Mackems and Fulham in the QF - need to string some results together over the next few weeks. I’d like to see us grind some results out as well and see a bit of character from the team to get the job done by hook or by crook!
7 points from City, Everton and Spurs is very decent, only missing out on all points 5 minutes into injury time last night. Win against Burnley makes a very good run.
