Yup, we'll end up with a centre midfielder if one's available, a third striker to replace Osula and Trafford (if not in the summer) as well.
There's always the potential of a sale mind. The Isak situation should have reminded us all that there's nothing the club can do sometimes or it might simply suit at the time.
The club might well try to get some (not much) cash for either Lascelles, Krafth, Tripps or Schar seeing as most are running down contracts.
Realistically they'll get peanuts for them and they'll probably ask themselves can we get a better player for such a pathetic amount, but yeah they might. I can see them taking the money for Botman, having trouble keeping Livramento or even taking a big offer for Tonali if he kicks up a fuss.... He's already in the nicest possible way said he's open to a move. The odd big sale here and there is more beneficial I would imagine.
Either way, we either trim down some Of the dead wood / older players on their way out, OR cash in on someone who would command a big enough transfer fee to make it worthwhile for the club to grow. I'm not really too woried now that the Isak deal has happened. The first big sale was always going to hit fans the hardest, but now people can see the impact that sales have on our ability to spend bigger.
I agree, but it doesn’t seem something clubs do.. I can hand on heart say that I've seen us on here listing the dead wood we can get rid of each window for decades, but in reality it's like getting rid of 1000 year old dry porridge oats from a bowl with nothing but your fingernails. I think it just becomes difficult so they sell someone that's worth something. What do you think though on funds? , because I think everyone's assumed we've got the Isak money available, but in reality I think they knew they were selling him and bought the replacements first.
For me, and i think alot of others, it wasn't the actual sale of the Rat that caused all the aggro but the Rat's actual behaviour in forcing the sale. Subject to that point the sale of Andy Cole showed it's never about who leaves as opposed to who the replacement is.
Hmm, very interesting point. I'd like to test this theory out Trev. Could please leave this forum and we'll replace you with... well... anyone really, and we'll see if it's an improvement.
I think we had financial leeway this summer anyway, due to the previous windows and 3 year rolling financials. So the club could gamble a bit. But I expect they also had a fair idea Isak was going to push for a move as well.
Ps if anyone offering big money for Tonali I'd sell him.. Not Livramento... Miley is already a better player... Yesterday I think Miley was unbelievable actually. Gordon Barnes Tonali sell one of them
Yeah I don't see much happening in January if that's what you mean. Maybe one or two in. And one or two out. But not likely to be big money signings. Summer 2026 might be more eventful.
I think Tonali has been flogged and is knackered. He probably feels like he owes us. So he plays week in week out. He’s a good player. But not as elite as some think.
