Well she hasn’t knocked £400 billion off all our pensions so there’s a start.

Taxing wealthy farmers is fine by me unless you like watching Jeremy Clarkson bubbling on like a self interested twat.

I can see both parts of the argument but ultimately you must be a bit of a twat if you want kids to go hungry.

Onto a more general point, I had some involvement in Sure Start centres which were doing a great job in working with low income families and tackling some of the issues you are highlighting, sadly the Tory government in their wisdom scrapped the funding in 2010 and I’d wager that decision has cost the country a hell of a lot more in the long term.

No doubt if this government weren’t trying to drag kids out of child poverty the right on here would be saying they were useless as well. Given the rotten right wing media in this country, whatever this government it’s going to be trashed. Perhaps som need to wake up?

Go and have a look at the Boris thread. Plenty of just critcism of thr tories there.

This is now about Labour with a huge majority to achieve whatever they think is beneficial. A quarter of their way through their term they have done very little of substance, at least in the plus box. All we hear is how the tories left a mess. We all know that. What we dont know is what is the labour plan.

Right now it appears to me Labour are making the tory mess worse. This weeks budget gets worse the more I read. 2 budgets now and we appear completely rudderless as a country. My worry is for my kids and their kids. We are leaving a real mess for them to clear up.

They certainly can’t make it much worse, you must have a very short memory. Record nhs waiting lists, record crime, record rise in foodbanks, record child poverty, prisons overflowing and the clusterfck of Brexit and Covid.

The issue is, mainly down to Brexit, is we have an economy that is not generating the funds to massively improve things. As a country we need to balance the books given the deficit massively increased under the Tories and we we all need to pay a bit more tax to do that and income tax is probably the fairest way. Thanks to our right wing media if the Labour Party put that in a manifesto it would never ever get elected.

The challenge is getting the economy to generate funds.

Il happily be called a gormless twat if I don’t want to see kids go hungry. For the record I didn’t call you a twat but if anyone is happy for kids to go hungry in my opinion they are. So if the cap fits….

Ad I have said we need to look at the underlying reasons why we have the issues we have in relation to people having more children they can provide for. I think more cross party debate and cooperation if needs be.

However, in the short term, anyone who is happy to see kids go hungry (through no fault of their own) really needs to look at themselves as we have truly created a disgusting society if this becomes the norm. If a millionaire farmer or someone in a £2.5m + house has to pay a bit more tax to feed hungry kids I can live with that till we can properly get on top of the problem.

As aside go and read Entitled and see how much money is wasted on the biggest disfunctional family of them all.

Probably something that hasn’t got a lot of media coverage but crucial to the above is the inclusion of financial management in school curriculums moving forward. Ultimately getting the long term unemployed back to work and better financial management skills is the key.

Is this government perfect? No but at least there is some sort of a plan if people looked beyond the right wing media’s headlines.

No backtracking whatsoever just context on being called a ‘tit’ for my view in not wanting kids to go hungry

However, anyone who is happy to see a child go hungry is a twat imho. If that makes me now ‘atit’ I’m happy with your latest insult if that is what atit is?

I’m happy to pay my taxes to help vulnerable kids. Does that make me a bad person ?

For the record, I think the same. I’d like both to go. However I support kids having easier lives. I’d have liked more investment in young people’s services funded by people who don’t need the money but they didn’t have the balls to do it

People went mad about the winter fuel allowance but are also going mad about kids in poverty getting help. Are kids not as important as old people ?

You will have to enlighten me to the benefits of letting kids going hungry to punish their parents.

I have done work with a number of charities and kids being hungry at school massively restricts their education and therefore life opportunities. How are we then going to get them kids out of poverty and break this cycle?

As a side in this work I have liaised with professionals and a number of wealthy right leaning individuals who have also funded work in this area and not once has anyone thought letting kids go hungry is a good idea.

However, looking back at Marcus Rashfords abuse when he raised the issue there are some in our society who are happy with this. Il reiterate anyone who is happy for kids to go hungry is a twat imho.

    Haters hate.

Alternatively Rach from accounts could have taxed more and borrowed more to stimulate growth and some would now be posting she was reckless.

She was dammed if she did and damned if she didn’t but she certainly has one of a mess to clear up.

If a pensioner on over £35k a year can’t heat their home they will die of stupidity not the cold.

On the benefits argument, and lifting the 2 child cap. There are always going to be people who abuse the system, and checks certainly need to be in place for that but what about people who could afford kids and have since fallen on hard times.

For example people divorced, losing jobs, businesses going bust. I'd be terrified if I lost my job now. I'm 46, divorced with 2 young kids, worked non stop since I was 15, living in a rented apartment. The benefits safety net is there for people like that should they need it, not everyone is a scrounger although I'm sure we all certainly know some.

You can't just assume the majority people on any kind of benefit is milking the system. People taking advantage of the system usually don't care who knows about it, they make it obvious and therefore it looks like the majority. Many on income support or child benefit want to keep it to themselves. I bet there are people we all know receiving benefits and struggling silently.

The mess that the economy in is beyond anyone's worst case scenario, and the previous government are massively to blame. The Tories and Reform will rant on about how disgraceful it is to increase tax but we literally don't have another option, they know fine well they would be doing exactly the same.

    Anyway sorry for the rant!

No rant just a sensible viewpoint and we do need to be more robust on those who abuse the system as a general point because that is what fuels more extreme views.
