Off Topic NETFLIX and Box Set series Thread.

While not the main point of that article, it annoyed me when it says the picture might not be as good but you’re saving money . The picture quality on them is perfect , my mate told me .

 

At home I have a very good fireproof safe to store my valuables and the key is hidden. These dodgy sticks are like giving a burglar the key to it.

 

Just another scare story.
Slightly more plausible that the one I posted about from the Mail on Sunday the other week, where "a man flushed his f/stick down the toilet when he saw police arriving outside", but they went to someone else's door. Yeah, right .
2 out of 5 using illegal streaming have been defrauded?!! Give over. And how the hell would they know it was 2 out of 5 anyway!
It's mostly made up bollox to scare people.
Not saying there isn't a risk, especially if you buy a preloaded stick from a stranger and then plug it into a pc and enter sensitive data. If I had one, I'd only put it in my tv, and I certainly wouldn't be putting in sensitive data.

I did workshops on all of this last year and without wishing to offend, you have missed the point.
This isn’t about having just access to a pc or laptop this is access to your home network.
The dark web is full of sites that enable criminals to buy the tools to crowbar their way into your bank accounts and these sticks are the same as leaving a door open.
The last workshop I did scared the living daylights out of me. I only know one of my passwords now and that only opens biometric security.

 

Yes, I read it. For some reason, I tend to keep reading them when I know it's mostly scare tactic bs.
"The research". Do you honestly believe their own research? Really? Their job is to try to stop people streaming illegally, and that includes scare tactics. I have a reasonable sample size of family, friends and others who use f/sticks, NONE of which have been defrauded. If you believe their own 'research' you must be incredibly gullible.
As for my TV being connected to my broadband, yes it is, but if I was to be targetted by criminals, it almost certainly wouldn't be via a f/stick which didn't come preloaded and would only be used on my TV.
I'm not saying there's no risk. There is but it's absolutely minimal (with a non-pre loaded f/stick in a tv only), and if anyone was really that concerned then I'd advise they immediately stop using their mobile phone and their computer first.

Well, this was timely!! Paramount+ get the rights for Champions League. Obscene; the peoples game eh. The greed is encouraging more & more people to find cheaper, illegal, riskier ways of watching their football; well done.

At today’s prices, here is what a full setup looks like:

• TV licence: about £14.50 per month
• Sky Sports: £35 per month
• TNT Sports: £30.99 per month
• Amazon Prime: £8.99 per month
• Paramount+ (current basic tier): £4.99 per month

Total: around £94.51 a month, and that is without extras like Premier Sports or Disney+ for certain competitions.

That is close to £1,100 a year once you add everything up. This will rise if Paramount+ introduces a football add-on or raises prices once the rights begin.

If people are daft enough to load all sorts of 'dodgy' apps onto their f/stick then I agree, they are asking for trouble. Likewise with visiting such sites on their mobile or PC. That's not what I'm talking about.

 

The people I did the workshops with work alongside this organisation, who I think you may believe.

A straw poll of friends and family may well show that none of them have been victims of internet crime but the facts are that virtually everyone in this country is targeted. Your poll, may fit a demographic profile that is least likely to buy a dodgy firestick anyway. If you think your tv operates independently on your home network then you probably write your passwords down in a little book as well.

If you buy a stick from some guy down the pub, without knowing whats in it, then you would be opening yourself up to possible problems.

But, you dont need a guy to hook you up with a jailbroken stick, which could be loaded with all sorts of crap. You can do everything yourself with minimal cost and effort, and the only thing you need is access to someone's server to view the content.

No need for such snide comments (which I do though expect from the likes of Brady).
