I think he’ll likely start as a left sided midfielder. But he can also play that false 9 and no10 role.

    gives us great forward options

You mean LW? or Declan Rice's position?

I mean on the left, in Martinelli's position, but not as an out and out winger.

Yeah agree, just think we will see him down the middle a fair bit as well - depending on Havert's injury situation.

Rumours about Semenyo seem to be transfer junkie induced.
The guy has had a short run of playing really well, though has dropped off a little.
All it takes is a few games and the junkies are all over social media saying we have to sell one of our players and get a new shiny toy.
In this case axing 24yr old Martinelli for 25yr old Semenyo - even though Martinelli scores at the same rate and assists at a higher rate in the PL.
Honestly - can't stand the transfer window set up.
I think the January window should be abolished.

Yeah I don't get it. I mean he's a decent player, having good Season but is he really a World beater?.. or just another player having good run of form? Eze, Trossard, Madueki or Martinelli - all quality options.. We don't need another winger unless it's clearly an upgrade

You can only go on current form, for a season and a half Semenyo has been very good and during that time Martinelli has been pap. Not saying I agree with purchasing Semenyo, just saying I understand why others are thinking that.

Martinelli was 'poor' last Season (last two Seasons honestly) but has been quality this term. (albeit off the bench)

    BTW..

Martinelli 10 Goals 4 assists = Poor Season
Semenyo 11 Goals 5 assists = Good Season

Semenyo is a year older btw. And that was his best Season ever.

I personally think - unless we can bring someone in who is going to be hitting elite number 20+ from the wing - there's really no point. We have plenty of quality.

Could have something to do with one of them playing for Bournemouth and one playing for Arsenal.

He’s probably not what you most need but he has more about him than Martinelli, Trossard and Madueke. Could probably do a job up front if required too.

Giver over. Madueke? He's two and half years older than Madueke. Two and half a years ago Semenyo was doing almost nothing for Bournemouth. Madueke was doing Semenyo current numbers at Chelsea at age 21/22. Remains to be seen what he does at Arsenal as he's been injured but he's hardly going to get worse.

And Trossard? At Semenyo's age Trossard was doing similar G/As at Brighton. And he's kept it up for years even at a bigger club with reduced game time.

Yeah I'm not having Semenyo at all really. Maybe if he was closer to 20. But he's not going to get any better at 25. Would much rather get someone like Barcola, Doue. It's got to be a proper upgrade on Martinelli and Trossard, not just another bit of filler. There aren't many out there who'd actually be attainable.

Semenyo will go to someone like Spurs or United. Bit of money, but not the very top teams.

I don’t really care who entered the world earlier. I was thinking who would give you more chance of getting over the line this season.

This is a dude who only scored in 3 of the final 14 league games last year. And one of those was the final game dead rubber against an already relegated Leicester. He’s also a dude who’s had one single third of a purple season (this season currently), and even IN his current third of a purple season has currently got 0g/a in his last four 90-minute appearances. And you think HE will help us get over the line more than the 11 forwards we already have fighting for four spots (Saka, Gyokeres, Havertz, Jesus, Odegaard, Trossard, Martinelli, Nwaneri, Eze, Madueke, Dowman)??

I mean I don’t really care either way but yes because I watch football matches rather than pretending to be some sort of internet scout relying on statistics I’ve just googled.

I watched 90 minutes live of Semenyo being gash earlier in this season and wondered what all the fuss was about. About all he’s got going for him is G/A stat padding.

Yeah, he's been great for a few seasons at Bournemouth. Selling their back line and Ouattara meant they could likely keep him for another.

    Thats not even true
Last year Samenyo was decent. He wasn't great.
This year he had a run of 6 or 7 games where he looked great.
Last 4 games? Not so much.

    Martinelli has not been 'pap'
He was our player of the month in September.
End of last year he was good.

To suggest you can only go on latest form when making decisions about transfers is simply not right.
Transfer considerations are something that are a lot deeper than judging a few games.

    Not Semenyo thats for sure.
He has been woeful in his last few games.
He has a few bursts of playing well but his PL career to date (4 years i think) has been underwhelming.
That's why he had no real profile until he had a run of 6 or so games to start this year... that's all it takes these days for transfer junkies to start soiling themselves.

Martinelli has also contributed more goals and assists based on actual time on the pitch THIS season too than Semenyo.
The January transfer window brings out the absolute worst of the fan bases around the league bigging up players we don't need.
It's a circus - it's why players like that Ukrainian pubber Mudryk went for £85m!
I can't believe the clubs actually get sucked into it.

Every time I see Martinelli I am unconvinced he will do anything of note when he has the ball. Every time I see Semenyo with the ball I think something will happen. The goal and assist stats alone don't tell the full picture. If we compare their 2024/25 seasons Semenyo was successful with over half of his dribbles (54.8%) compared to Martinelli (35.5%). Semenyo has a higher percentage of ground duels won and significantly more aerial duels won. He just seems like a more solid player on current form. Now, an in form Martinelli wipes the floor with Semenyo and its not even close, problem is, the last time Martinelli was properly in form was 2 seasons ago.
