Why do people see playing at home in the second leg as an advantage ?? How so ? what happens if they score in extra time, do away goals count as double in a score draw ?
http://www.uefa.com/newsfiles/19071.pdf "if the two teams score the same number of goals at home and away, extra time of two periods of 15 minutes shall be played at the end of the second leg. If, during extra time, both teams score the same number of goals, away goals count double (i.e. the visiting club qualifies)." So yes away goals count in ET. But in peoples opinion, it is always better to have the 2nd leg at home, hence why the group winners all have this 'advantage'. The reasons are various, but probably the most important thing being, that it is generally easier for teams playing at home. By playing at home 2nd, you know what you have to do to qualify and with the home support, the lack of travelling, being used to the pitch and facilities etc. it should be easier for you to get the required result. You also have the advantage that if ET is required, you have the home advantage.
Would have preferred Basle to Milan but let's not worry, we beat them in 2008 and we'll beat them in 2012. It's the 4 year cycle and it means we're going to win. 2008 can be divided by 4, 2012 can be divided by 4 and so on.........
Magic Man, Its no advantage at all, it's a hindrance. Much like people saying 0-0 away from home is a good score, thats a bad score.
Agree 0-0 is a precarious score. An away goal is a massive advantage. A clean sheet is a bonus too. I do think there is some advantage in the 2nd leg being at home though.
Are we better home or away in the CL? Stats say home by a country mile. Hence its an advantage to play in a ground where you win the majority of your games. We will know what we need to do and we will have the chance to complete that task at home in the 2nd leg.
It could be, the away goal is a massive advantage. Obviously Milan have the same potential advantage at the Emirates, so 2-1 could be a platform or half way to a drubbing.
Nonsense. If you draw 0-0, another 0-0 draw will take you to extra time and a win will take you through. If you lose 2-1 then no draw will be good enough snd 2-1 would only take you to extra time, also 3-2, 4-3 etc sends you out also.
0 - 0 Away from home is a very bad result. Playing at home is a big advantage though. Look at the results at home compared to away for all teams in the CL and you will see that (as SuperJack said).
Totally agree. A draw is always better than a loss. However, a 1 nil home result always helps in the above scenario.
There's no "might just be" though. Obviously drawing is better than losing. I'll remember that last bit for next year
I would have preferred Milan over Napoli anyway. I think we can beat them. Milan is not as weak as last season anymore (they went out to SPURS), but we have the advantage with second leg at home and I simply can't remember losing to an Italian side recently.
Some people are unbelievable. If we got a good draw, it would've been "Good draw for us, yay!" If we get a bad draw, it's "Bad draw, it's obviously fixed." What unbelievable idiocy.
As i posted on another thread where the accusation was made that the draws were fixed for a Barca v Madrid final. How come the draw wasn't fixed last year .?
