Only if you let it bother you,

I don't care what Tesco does or says, as long as it has food on the shelves when I go shopping there.
Too many other proper worries in life to get stressed over supermarket silliness.

Can’t say it stresses me but the sheer stupidity of it is breathtaking.

    Tiresome in my view.
    Not worth worrying about.
Seems to me there is far too much offence being taken at silly nonsense these days.
I've been as guilty as anyone in the past. Getting all upset about a few flags (for example) <doh>
But really, life is too short. Enjoy the good, laugh at or ignore the silly.

Don't know about you guys, but I have had my fill of stress here in the last couple of weeks. I'm chilled now about life in general :emoticon-0157-sun:

It is the thin end of the wedge. When your nation's largest supermarket downplays Christmas, you know you are in trouble.

There are too many people rolling over and accepting this sort of desecration. It is no wonder we are imploding.

Out here in Belgium they are ramping up their Christmas celebrations, as it should be.

Sorry @Smudger603 but what you've heard is not correct.

Tesco are selling one type of artificial tree which they have labelled as an 'Evergreen tree'.
The Supermarket is also continuing to sell several other types of tree, which are still labelled 'Christmas tree'.

However, the right wing press are distorting the facts, giving the impression that Tesco no longer sells any trees with the label 'Christmas tree'.
    That is simply not true.

A little online research has uncovered the facts.
Tesco is offering a range of products to a wide variety of customers.
There are many kinds of non-Christian folk who may still wish to celebrate a mid-Winter festival, even one with Christian sentiments.
Humanists or agnostic people for example, as well as some people of other faiths.
It's possible that some of them might prefer to buy a tree without the word 'Christmas' on the packaging.
So one Tesco product (among a whole range, all of which are still labelled Christmas tree) caters for their wish.

The hysteria being whipped up about Tesco cancelling Christmas, and furious shoppers boycotting the store, is being driven by the usual suspects.
GB News. The Daily Mail. The Express. And various social media sources.

It's coming. In twenty years' time, Christmas will be a thing of the past. Anyone caught celebrating will face dire consequences. That's the future, unless something radical occurs.

    That may be.
But this 'Woke Tesco cancels Christmas' story has nothing to do with it.

I'm not saying anyone - including Smudger - has posted anything in bad faith.
But what Smudger heard, basically stems from social media fake news - fabricated to whip up anger and hate towards non-Christians.

By the way - and no disrespect intended - were you not one of those members who said I should not really post political views, as it was a conflict of interest with my (then) position as moderator?

Did the Times article say that Tesco were no longer selling any trees with the words 'Christmas Tree' on them?
I very much doubt it. Because that would be factually incorrect. In effect, a lie.
The newspaper was simply content to imply it.

And I doubt too that the article said that the store was still selling a range of other trees, all still described as Christmas trees.
And if it did, that snippet was likely buried at the bottom of the last column in tiny text.
Not in big bold type as part of the headline.

This story is a gross distortion of the facts.
    In effect, fake news.
Intended to inflame cultural / racial tensions and discrimination.

I haven’t read the story, but it speaks to a wider truth. With the demographic changes that are taking place, it’s quite possible that Christmas will not be widely celebrated in England in 20 years time. Do you think that is a good thing ?

Fake news speaking to a wider truth?

Are you really, as an intelligent and reasonable debater, defending that?

If so, where would you draw the line?
What fabrication, what falsehood, what depth of lie, would be beyond the pale if it was supposedly speaking to a wider truth?

By wider truth I meant that the demographic changes currently taking place in England could result in Christmas not being widely celebrated in 20 years time, do you agree with that ?

It's the start of a downward spiral. It'll be one item this year, five the next, and so on. People will lie back and accept this if it is done slowly enough. That's how we've ended up with this disaster of a country. Rising damp and apathy are the orders of the day. We are being marginalised, yet people are too lazy to act, or too thick to notice. Or, dare I say it, too cowardly and mealy-mouthed to speak up. Only the terminally deranged think this current ****show is anything to be proud of.

I don’t post about politics or anything too controversial as folk know, but there’s a video doing the rounds today of an Imam in East London preaching at the weekend.

I’ll quote him directly, but without comment, for @lardiman

“The vision is that within 20 years all synagogues, church’s, Sikh and Hindi temples will close. Alcohol and pork will be banned …only halal allowed. Islam will enter every house”
