Akintola is better than Lokilo, at least he's direct and will run at players. Lokilo just stopped, turned back and played a pass.

Akintola is crap but he's a wildcard, could be useful here and there if we're chasing with 10 mins to go.

Goals are normally reviewed in the championship pretty quickly aren’t they? As both Devlin and Joseph’s were definitely own goals, but they’re both still being credited with them.

I wouldn't be so sure he will be just dropped when players return. As I said he is integral to the way we play at that end of the field under this manager.

Players like him always end up keeping their place longer than expected. Slater does it every season when we sign a load of supposedly better midfielders, Coyle keeps doing it when new right backs come in. Ashbee was supposed to be phased out after each promotion...

I agree. As I said earlier he is a coaches dream.
He will play anywhere, run until he can't run anymore and looks to be willing to learn judging by his improvement under the new boss.
People talk about his lack of goals as if he is playing Sunday league. This is one of the toughest comps in Europe and he is still a baby learning his trade. I have a feeling once a few start going in that will change.

I reckon he has felt the pressure since coming here and finally he appears to be starting to look like a decent player at this level.

He is far from a headless chicken, he knows exactly where he needs to be and the shortest route to it. He is a keeper or defenders nightmare. As shown against Portsmouth on Saturday. Was it three times their keeper punted it into touch? Maybe not just because of Joseph directly but our overall pressure was brilliant at times. He is pretty much the leader of that the way he initiates from the front.

I didn’t realise he’s only 24 until I just looked, I thought he was much older. In all seriousness he needs to be protected better than he has been but I suppose when there’s an injury crisis there’s no choice but to keep playing him.

I can’t get my head around people asking what we do when we get everyone back. Those on the To Hull & Back Podcast saying we don’t need Carvalho - where would he play?

We often have Saturday - Tuesday - Saturday, we need to rest players. We’ll get more injuries, different teams utilise different tactics, where different personnel are needed, players lose form.

We need more than just 11 strong starters for every single game. It blows my mind how this confuses so many :emoticon-0121-angry

I've got to say it's incredibly arrogant to say we don't need carvalho. The chances everyone will be fit and stay fit is so minimal, and having a goalscorer of that calibre is always worthwhile

If we can't bring in replacements though I don't see how we can sell, if we're in and around the play offs still I'd like to think Acun would back us, like under rosey

Yeah that's an odd point, he's a semi experienced player at that age.

His lack of finishing ability and poor touches won't improve unless something drastic happens.

His work rate is incredible, but he really is so poor in front of goal and when we break forward he seems to get in the way more than help most of the time.

He's taking the mickey there. No club would be in for anything near what we paid for him.

As hard working as he is, if we got our money back we'd cash in immediately.

I can imagine people were making similar comments about Billy Whitehurst in his early days, until Chillo got hold of him, then everything changed.

    RIP Chris Chilton

i do think the balance of the team massively changes if you put belloumi on the right instead of gelhardt

id keep gelhardt there as first on the teamsheet

Some strikers tend to mature later in their career. It wouldn’t surprise me if Joseph is one of those

Sorry, but a really poor comparison! We can live in hope, but come on ....

Big Billy joined us, having just turned 21, having come up through the ranks of .... Retford, Brid Trinity, and Mexborough. He had been playing as a part timer whilst still working as a brikie. The coaching under Chillo was likely the first time he'd even encountered professional level coaching.

Compare and contrast with Joseph, who is now turned 24. He joined Wigan's academy at age 13. He signed professional with them nearly 7 years ago. He's played for Swansea and Blackpool since leaving Wigan, and also for Scotland U18, 19 and 21. He's already had professional coaching for 11 years, 7 of which as a full time professional at club and country level (ok, it's only Scotland I know!).

You'd struggle to find 2 more totally different cases!!

Fwiw, I agree 100% with IpredictaFryatt. Incredible work rate, but poor at this level technically ... and that is highly unlikely to change given the development he's already been through at Wigan, Swansea, Under Brucie, and Scotland. He is what he is. Wasn't Brucie truthful with us when he said something like "great lad, he'll run all day for you ... but don't expect ....."

All this fuss over a 1 in 5 goalscorer this season predominantly from the wing in a team that's scored the second most in the division.

I really don't think its currently as big a problem as is being made out. We'd have been happy with three players who'd all scored more than 1 in 5 this summer, especially considering we've had 12 different scorers.
