the same club who had 13,000 turning up vs Luton in 1980, ho wait that does not count only the last say 4 years and 1997 of course, what happened to this so called 'shadow' we were living under lol come derby day they will be in the bottom 3 mark my words, the truth is the SOL will need extending next season i hope it does get it, this is as good as 1999 but look what happened they did not strengthen but these owners will in January. Will Howe be in charge come the derby i wonder.

I might be in the minority here, but I kind of hope he stays.

    They might get someone competent.

Their fury if we go to 63000 whilst they are stuck in Sid James , unable to repair , unable to extend , unable to find a new site ( with owners not interested) !

They've produced a plan for a stadium they know wouldn't be approved by the city's planning department.

There's also no suitable alternative stadium while the work is carried out.

KLD wouldn't allow them to use the SOL.

Newcastle have concocted this so they can blame other people when it doesn't happen.

Their only long term option is to sell the club but who, in all honesty, would buy it?

For Ashley to get £300 million for that dump proves he’s probably the best business man in this country.

They have been sold a pup.

Given where our club is now and thanks to Sir Bob’s vision we can relatively easily and cost effectively extend the SOL to 63,000. For them to have a ground at that capacity it would cost them a fortune to build above the metro or alternatively a £2b + cost for a new stadium.

I really hope our owners are looking at extending soon because given how the club is heading with the extra capacity we can get the youngsters in and build our support for the future and generations to come.

You may confirm but I had it on good authority the Americans looked at stadium expansion when they were considering buying us and an extension would be doable on the west Stand to take the stadium up to 75,000 if it was ever needed.

To be fair there's a couple of people who know the details better than me, one posts occasionally on here ...

... but the general plan was an immediate stadium expansion, much better hospitality and more corporate seating.

I've no idea what capacity they actually settled on but there were plans put to the authorities for around 60k, they lapsed ages ago.

I'm convinced the go ahead will be given in the summer although I know most people think after next season.

    Morning all,

Just had a lovely morning on Tyneside, the seethe was palpable, the confusion around my direction to focus on the tests that I was there to witness rather than engage on football and me leaving once the tests were completed was exquisite...

Sure I read on here the extension to the Roker (South), with increased corporate to attract the big gigs, and the East, would take the capacity up to 63,000

I was told years ago that there were various designs for different capacities, though most were around 62-64k, but some went as high as 72k.

Aye don't want him sacked as looks like he has lost it there but if he gets sacked after playing us it means we have thumped them!

I think he is competent to be fair, just not some brilliant genius they make him out to be. They have spent a lot of money since he turned up, probably £3/4 bn. It might have been haphazard, and badly led, but it's still a load of money.

Competent and that's it. A better coach would probably do better, but it is not a well ran place!

Aye 63,000 was east and south extensions and the 72k figure was a further tier on the west (jimmy) stand I would guess.

Given how quickly the Saudi game tickets went I’m sure the owners will be seriously considering some works. Our level of support has never truly been tested in over 80 years. A small sniff of success and we have thousands locked out.

We have to maximise getting the kids through the turnstiles (and secure our future fan base whilst the Saudis flap with a not fit for purpose stadium and very very costly alternatives) so hopefully extension works is a possibility in the near future. HTLs
