You can say the same about the police as well. Without some ‘pen pushers’ you take frontline staff from the frontline to do tasks what others can do. It’s not as simplistic as some may think. Sadly some of the business practices the last government brought in created the bureaucracy in the nhs which wasn’t necessary but is now being addressed with investment. The common sense thing to do.

It's all kicking off in Consett. Lib Dem councillor has been told she cannot lay the wreath at the Remembrance Service as a Reform councillor from another area is doing it.

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/1965867297528216/posts/2141362349978709/

I’m a councillor in Durham and I’ve been told today I’m not allowed to lay the wreath in my ward on Sunday at the remembrance service, a reform councillor from a different ward will be laying it in my ward, I can’t lay the official Durham council one I’ve to source my own if I want to lay one.
The council wreath is currently in my possession and wonder will they be wrestling it off me at the service ?

Appalling I’ve heard similar tales in Northumberland about reform councillors taking credit for stuff that was all set up before the Johnny come lately reformers came in.

Hope the liberal lass sticks to her guns

I find it interesting reading, in the Economist, that Farage's u turn this week on his plans for swathing tax cuts are seen as Reform showing a level of economic prudende that other parties are failing to grasp. Essentially he is reading the mood music in the bond markets. The Economist call it a sign of preparing for power without the sort of untenable promises the labour party made.

When the Economist sees sense in an economic policy from Reform it is noteworthy to me. As they say, can he really become Captain Sensible? He remains an opportunist at heart, but there is a danger he grabs the common sense opportunities that appeal to more of the voting public.

Read my last post in the Starmer thread. Not writing it again. I suggest we look beyond his approach if we want functional communities. The bond markets want huge cuts to services people need but they don’t need them. The alternative is to tax the wealthy. I’m on the side of the people. Nigel isn’t . Him and the millionaires he represents don’t need them either. Communities, young people, the vulnerable do. It’s about finding the balance. I trust Reeves more than them with the whole picture and she’s refusing to sufficiently reach up to where it exists.

I agree wholeheartedly. But maybe he is getting sound economic advice from somewhere. Labour could pinch some of it. The reduction in interest paid by thr bank of england I have previously mentioned is a sensible way to get £10bn a year back.

Yeah but they will cut services like never before to please the bond markets. I don’t think Reeves will be taking bad advice, just weighing things up

See who he would get in to make cuts, DOGE in America was a good idea but give it to someone like Musk and it would be a terrible idea. He just did the same as Cameron no thought on what cuts needed, just cut at the bottom, the people who actually do the work

To be honest mate cutting services might well be the only real answer here.

I would advocate for a dutch style NHS for example. Means test it. I can probably pay so I should. My eldest lad can so should get it free. It is a system designed for an entirely different period of time and population. Victim of its own success in many ways.

It will come, whoever is in charge. Being done by stealth anyway. My dentist went entirely private last year. I had no say. Either accept it or dont have a dentist. £89 quid last night for a clean up. Have to go every 3 months. Best part of £600 a year. Frustrating but I can pay and have no issue doing so if it helps put the country on an even keel. We are borderline broke and spending has to be curbed somewhere.
