Let’s face it, the ****house clubs will progress regardless because they have the best teams and money will always dictate that there is some kind of league to make more games. It’ll never be totally a knockout competition again. Personally I think this system is far better than the old one
It's just some empty fixtures until the last 16...the group format every game was intense in its significance
Can see both sides of argument here. I think new format throws up some good games and I think there's an electricity about the first couple of games but the middle section games between matchday 3-5 are a bit **** and lack the same intensity. I mean there's no way Club Brugge get the result they did last night iff there's more riding on it. Hopefully excitement levels pick up at business end.
Whichever system is introduced someone is going to complain. The current one is, IMO, better than the previous one. More games are for most clubs relevant with fewer non relevant games. The down side is that there are to many games. Also you will not talk the clubs back as none will want to give up the money. Looks as though we are stuck with the current system, at least for now.
I much prefer playing the 8 different teams tbh, opens things up a lot more, gets rid of the perennial "group of death" ****
