Have basically been thrown out of their stadium by the council. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16183581.stm I know it's popular to slate them for not giving the KC away, but I'm not sure it's realised often enough how lucky we were that they built us the ground in the first place with the KC money.
Anyone slating the council for not giving the stadium away needs to think about what they're saying. It's popular to criticse the council but we should never forget that this incredible gift, in the face of huge opposition at the time, did more for our club than any other single gesture.
I remember going to Barnet once years ago, im sure they where in trouble then as i seem to remember a collection and some flyers at that game! was anyone else at that game and can confirm im not losing my memory??
Our success in recent years has a lot to do with the change of stadium, you are right people often overlook this. I hate to say this as I loved the place but Boothferry had become a bit of a graveyard for us at the end and it changed our fortunes moving
KC been good to us - you bet it has. What I hear about Barnet's sitaution sounds like a lot of posturing going on between their Chairman and the Council. Pre KC we were unfortunately regular opponents of the likes of Barnet. Thank God we've moved on.
I went there for the first game of the season one year. I remember being in a boozer (underage I think) when the team bus passed with a bemused Steve Moran at the front seeming to be genuinley shocked by the City turnout. I also seem to recall us scoring the first goal of any team that season in that game, I think LInton Brown after about a minute. THink we won, something like 1-2 or 2-3. Ahhhhh, memories....
Agreed. Even as someone who thinks the Council's stance about not negotiating a change of ownership because it endangers Hull Fair is ridiculous, there's no way I'd advocate them giving it away.
