My QPR mate swears by a Greggs bacon roll & a coffee before work in the morning, not least because he’s tight, & it only costs £3.50 for the pair. Feeking a tad peckish this morning I succumbed, & entered Greggs in Hammersmith. Dear God I took it back. The coffee is absolutely vile. Milky & machine made, it tasted like dishwater. I asked the lady for a new one, which tasted no better, and two sips later it was in the bin. The bacon roll was little better. Poor quality ingredients, and with an appearance that looked like Reams had sat on it. The best quality bacon roll in London is from M&S. You cannot fault the quality, fresh ciabatta, dripping in butter, and at least 6 rashers of high quality bacon. Its price is a bit steep at £5, but it never fails to excel. Greggs should be avoided at all costs
Absolutely no comparison. Spoons provides good quality drink & food for excellent value, I went there twice last week & the prices are borderline ridiculous. Greggs targets a similar market, but the quality is poor. I definitely won’t be going to Greggs again.

Greggs seemed to become ultra-trendy a few years back. Everyone was banging on about them. For that reason alone, I've never been into one. Many years ago there was a hamburger bar on Charing Cross station concourse. An independent one I think. It served a giant half-pounder burger, smothered in sauce and mustard. I couldn't get enough of them Gross, but delicious - to me anyway. Sadly that burger joint has long since disappeared. Probably a sushi bar there instead
Agree the quality of the food and coffee in Greggs is pretty poor. But the Greggs Foundation does excellent work in the communities where it operates, for that reason alone, it is worth supporting every now and again
Do you remember Casey Jones burger bar? There used to be one in Charing Cross station back in the 80s. A very decent outlet. That same outlet is boarded up & disused now.
A large curry & pint on Thursday in Spoons (“Curry Night”) costs a mere £11.85. Not even @The Penguin could complain about those prices. A bottle of cider & a pint of Carlsberg - under £5.
There’s way too many eateries about and the natural result is poor quality food in order to maximise profit,pay overheads,staff etc. You can’t beat fresh homemade food which is expensive when bought separately but quality. You have to like cooking which l do. The better your food at home the worse it tastes in eateries. I cooked a wonderful Pakistani korma yesterday and my daughter saved some for her lunch at work today saying it’s way better than anything she can buy on the go in the city. Remember our health is based on what we eat,drink,inhale etc etc.
Ayres Bakers in Westmount rd Eltham is one of the best around- the selection of loaves is second to none and the hot food is very good quality as well, always make a point of popping in to get my mum a cake when visiting
PG tea bags, the only insta cuppa i buy if u want a solid tasting tea. Interestingly the quality dipped this year and some day that they, along with Lipton completed research whereby it was found alot of people steeped their bag for less than a minute so the pyramid shape of PG teabags and the strength was reduced! Effing outrageous !
