I have found Booking.com to be quite fair and reasonable when it comes to such issues. I had an apartment booked in New York and the owners decided to cancel the booking the week before. As it was thanksgiving, options to find a replacement were limited and prices sky high. Booking.com not only gave us all the options available but honored the original price we paid and put us in an apartment showing as twice the price.
