The papers are already convinced we are gonna sell him for £20 million plus.
The rumours around the fans are that we are protecting him from injury for a potential sale.
Pardew has already dropped hints that if he was to be sold it would be for mega money.

The writing is on the wall and I dont like it but I am being realistic. We sold Carroll on the last day of the transfer window for £35 million even though we didnt think it would happen and it left us in the **** and we still aint bought a player. Maiga aint signed yet!

I think the fact that the club are not issuing a hands off warning or a statement along the lines of "Tiote is not for sale at any price" (like Spurs did for Modric) suggests to me that the time is here for the bids to start.

Now I think that to avoid a serious problem we need to accept that its most likely hes gonna go in the transfer window. NOW IM WRITING THIS IN CAPS SO YOU DONT MISINTERPRET MY THOUGHTS BUT I DONT WANT US TO SELL TIOTE but would it not be better to just get it done on 1st January and replace him straight away.

If he goes to Chelsea then lets take £20 million plus Mikel.

If I am honest I am quite sick of reading snippets in the papers about our top players being linked with big clubs (apparently we are not a big club, tell that to the Swansea fans after the match on Saturday) and the last 4 weeks have seen us have an injury crisis where we cannot afford to lose any more players let alone our top ones.

Wouldnt it be nice if for once we acted like a club with ambition and kept our best players and bought more to replace the weaker ones.

Ashleys gearing up for a very merry £25 million pound christmas present!

If we get offered daft money, or anything above £18m, I reckon he'll go. But you can bet your bottom dollar it'll be on the last day of January rather than the 1st. History shows that's how ashley's mind works. Sell late with no time to spend. The twastard.

John Obi Mikel <laugh> One of the most over-rated players in the PL. Wouldn't want him anywhere near our side.

I don't think £20m is mega money. We sold Carroll for £35m, that is mega money. I wouldn't take anything less than £25m.

I agree tho, if the plan is to sell then he should go earlier so we have a chance to get a good replacement in.

Only Liverpool will try and buy him in my eyes. Chelsea have 3 DMs on top top money, Man Utd tend not to buy in January, Arsenal won't pay that much for a player we got for £3mil last year, City will have bigger targets, Spurs won't bother. Question is, will Liverpools owner fork up another large chunk of money for player from the same club that they got Carroll from. Also the question remains, would Tiote go to Liverpool? There isn't much to offer that isn't at Newcastle. Unless he's one of 'those' sort f players that only care about cash. I doubt Tiote is one of those players.

Would want big money for him, not sure if it'll happen though, Tiote definitely has said he doesn't want to leave.

Can we just make one big "Tioté: Will he go in Jan or won't he? - Discuss" thread?

Personally I don't think we will and the whole keeping him wrapped in cotton wool conspiracy theory is bollocks but it wouldn't be a major surprise if he did.

    Agree.

Spurs don't have lots of cash to spend in January and will be focusing their spending on a striker. Harry is content with his CM with Parker, Modric, Sandro, Huddlestone and some promising youngsters.

Wenger also wouldn't pay anywhere near the minimum £20m+ that it would take to sign him, plus he has Arteta, Ramsey, Wilshere, Song and Diaby.

Chelsea have Ramires and Romeu who has been a revelation this season, and Mikel and Lampard as backup.

Man City don't need that position.

Liverpool surely can't afford to shell out that much.

Man U - these are the only ones that may be tempted. Anderson is out for a long time, as is Fletcher. Jones is more of CB. Carrick isn't at Tiotes level and Giggs is showing his age. I think it's all a bluff him saying he doesn't want to sign anyone.

Recently he's sold Barton, Nolan & Carroll. Carroll had to be accepted, it was the last day due to them selling Torres so late on, Nolan looks poor in the championship and Barton's a ****. We've made 3 brilliant sales and now everyone expects us to sell our players. Try thinking about who'd actually sign Tiote first! Unless Liverpool will spend another £20m + He won't be moving.

    This.

If we are getting a swap, how about 20/25mill plus McEachran and Van Aanholt?

We're doom Captain Mainwaring, We're doomed I tells you!!

My opinion is that I would not be surprised if we sold Tiote (hell I would not be surprised if we sold half our team) however speculating right now is pointless. If it happens, so be it.

Regards the OP we haven't 'bought' a player to replace Carroll, but exactly how many goals does Ba have to score to be considered his replacement?

an article that sums up where all these stories have come from

this doesn't mean he'll go imo just pardew covering his arse so he doesn't come out looking like a mug like he did with mandy.

To be fair I don't think I've ever met anyone who actually rates him.

I could totally see it happening but £20mil is peanuts for a player of Tiote's quality especially when you consider how many years he's got left on his contract. He is more important to us than Andy Carroll ever was so if I was the club I would only accept an offer around what was paid for him.

I agree, bear in mind Pards had been in the job for barely weeks last January. In fairness to him though anyone who doesn't play for Barca, Madrid, Chelsea or Man City has a price these days, and there's no way you can hold a ludicrous sale (£35m for Carroll. Just keep saying it in your head.) against him.

exactly and like the article said due to being in the job for weeks and reassurances from the board he was probably a little naive but saying that i'm sure the board weren't going to sell until the stupid bid landed on their table.i'd even say that the clubs mentioned would sell at the right price but is there anyone who could afford the price except maybe them or some rich Russian club.Barca seem to be leading the way in how to conduct transfers which i can see others following, due to the fabregas purchase(paying a massive fee for a player they once owned) any player they sell they have a clause in saying they can buy back the player for a certain price after a set number of years (i think it's 2) and if the team want to keep the player they have to stump up more cash.Read this on a euro site how true it is i don't know.

I believe that's roughly the deal they've got in place woth Roma for Bojan. Makes financial sense, just depends how.many teams fancy taking it up, its a no lose scenario for Barca unless they turn out to be super amazing.
