You can't lock someone up just for being ready to play a classic PS2 game, mate ... ... he's also wearing an Arsenal shirt ... so more likely to be sniggered at than be taken seriously..
Pretty damning - but some promising signs perhaps... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cr43ww32xx0o
That's a staggering waste of money. When you look at the actual figures of asylum seekers in the country too, 100k out of a population of 70m, with just 32k of those being housed in hotels. It's a drop in the ocean in terms of actual people, but mismanagement of contracts and no real plan to accommodate people has led to these huge wastes of money. It reminds me a bit of my time working with homeless, again there was no real long term plan, so street homeless were put up in old dilapidated hotels at huge cost to the local council.
A friend of a friend’s dad, a ridiculously successful bloke who made his money in a load of different things but mostly property has a couple of ****ty hotels in the sort of places you wouldn’t be rushing to stay. One not far from you. Both were booked up for asylum seekers and the contract he got them to agree to was insanely generous in terms of spend per night per person but also saves a fortune in marketing and staff but the real win was the government will basically refurb the whole thing once they’re done with it. It’s a bit of a racket for sure but the people doing the negotiation for the government are useless middle manager types who have little pressure to secure a good deal in the way a normal business would.
Same in local govt. As per the homeless scenario I gave. I saw the bill for housing those people. They were supposed to be given a hot breakfast and evening meal, which often amounted to a mini pack of cornflakes and some reduced ****e from the supermarket for dinner. The hotels were places that nobody would want to stay in, old dilapidated, often with no hot water. Absolute ****e, with private owners charging an absolute bomb because the council were over a barrel. Remember rocking up at one once, it looked like one of those ****ty old 70's motels out of Crossroads. Horrible inside and out. Little box rooms with mould around the windows and just general air of forgotten has been days. In the car park was a brand new Range Rover, with a trailer with a speedboat on it. Presumably the owners. Absolutely rinsing tax payers.
Stayed in the Britannia in Birmingham city centre once for work when something was going on in the city and every other option was unavailable or silly money. Was basically me and a load of pensioners on a coach holiday or some bollocks. Considered spending the evening in the casino once I saw the room and the breakfast was possibly made by Comm (RIP). The guy behind the chain has done well out of of this. Mates in the right places.
Always enjoy the ‘can’t even celebrate Easter/Christmas because woke/forrens’ outrage every year. Now boycotting Costa until there’s a full nativity scene on every caramel flat white decaf half shot.
Social media rage bait has turned large swathes of this country into a bunch of sit at home wailing Karens
They put you in gaol just for saying ‘Christmas’ these days. That’s in England btw, but you can’t say you’re English anymore either, because they put you in gaol for that too.
If they can ban birds in retro shirts bought the day before from Sports Direct screaming at Tuchel when we’re 0-0 against Cape Verde after ten minutes having been to exactly zero football matches this season that’s fine.
