I don’t think I’d prioritise bringing him back when we have Rigg. Jobe was undoubtedly the better player last season but you’re right I think if we want to bring someone in it should be someone experienced and noticeably better than Rigg if he’s going to potentially take minutes off him or Diarra. I’d be signing a good winger and putting ELF in the middle personally. Xhaka and Sadiki are nailed on starters, that third place is Diarra/Le Fee then Rigg as the rotation. We need more from the wide men imo.
Definitely mate. He got his wish and moved on and we've moved forward, arguably beyond his level and I'd want another difference maker, wow type signing in January if we're still doing well.
Aye we said at the time if we were to spend £30m on a midfielder to keep us up in the PL we’d want a lot better than Jobes current level. Wages aside we got Xhaka and Sadiki for the Jobe fee. Sadiki looks levels above, been massively impressed with him. He’s taken to the PL like a duck to water.
dont think Jobe would even make the bench, we have vastly improved, think we are looking at more "higher" end quality ti help us over the line
I feel like this is a non-starter, his dad wasn't happy when he was subbed off for Dortmund, no chance he would tolerate being a squad player, which he would be now due to our signings.
Correct. He had to play here before regardless of performance, that was clear as day in his first season.
Loved jobe but don’t want to develop him for someone else when we have rigg. Hopefully might be more appealing this January with how we started. Ghisolfi and speakman to carry om the good work
Guela Doue with another solid performance tonight for Strasbourg. Would like us to have a look at home but we have good options at RCB/RB already
On Jobe , did a decent job for us last season, but threatened little, and slowed us down, not what we need.
No chance Jobe comes back imo, think we've outgrown him. ... feels weird saying that about a first team regular for Borussia Dortmund who just played 90 minutes in the Champions League, but here we are
Don't think we've outgrown him. He's exactly the sort of homegrown, talented young player we should be targeting in general. However, the specific circumstances don't quite match up for us or him in the short term. We could really do with a left footed right winger as many have said. A long term signing really could do with them being hg too ahead of the crunch next summer. Barely any around who fit that bill and are attainable, though.
My assumption is that we'll not be doing significant business in January, perhaps a loan, perhaps smaller fees on permanent transfers, unless we shift players of course then it opens up the possibility, but it'll be a low net spend in my opinion. For next summer, I presume the club will have shortlists for all positions, but assuming we'll be looking to sell high (£40m+) and buy low (£20m or less) for the bulk of our business, it's very conceivable that the players we'll end up buying are not on most peoples radar just yet. For example Talbi had made only 9 first team appearances before last season, might be worth taking a look at which players around Europe are just breaking into their respective teams now, and could be viable targets by the end of the season.
Jobe comes with a premium attached given his age, nationality and name. He is not the kind of player we should be looking at at this point.
