You've been waiting a few games to bring this debate up again, haha. Anyway, keeper is the very least of our problems at the moment.
I've seen a couple of criticism from you about McCarthy for last night; in an alternative universe, would you be as critical of Bazunu if he did that? Think most of us agree that neither are great options and a goalkeeper is a must, but it's just a case of which option is marginally less poor
Yes. I think Baz would have at least come off his line for the first goal and made things more difficult for the striker. McCarthy just froze and gave him about 10 minutes to pick his spot. He was terrible last night which has gone relatively unnoticed.
They're both a bit **** at different things though so it really is just choose your poison. McCarthy is generally better at making saves though so I'd still rather that then Baz.
Largely because he's been relatively solid since he's come into the team. And we all know the goalkeeping situation is ****, so what's the point
Don't recall the boos but if that happened then that is absolutely entitled, and ridiculous, behaviour. But the frustration from fans over recent seasons is more than justified.
We were relegated with a poor squad except for a few individuals who have since moved on. Scienza is our only recruit that shows promise of being prem quality. The rest are average championship players that had no chance of playing Premier league. We signed a few youngsters from overseas who may develop into quality players. I think our expectations are way too high. We have a championship squad, the same as most teams in this league. The advantage most of them have over saints is the fact they've been playing together for a few seasons, compared to our few months. If Will Still is any good, I expect to see a strong finish towards the end of the season followed by auto promotion next year. If he can get us in contention this year he's a genius
Well… haven’t had a chance to come on here yet as for 30 mins last night I was busy having tonnes of fun at my first game in a long time! What a sh*tter that was in the end.. at 1 nil I thought “maybe I’ll be coming onto here & gloating at how I’m the lucky charm”, but wow, after the first goal wasn’t expecting to be an infidel! I’ve been on Still’s case a bit after Hull, but genuinely can’t see what he can do more after the last two games. Players really need to step up & fast. For a dose of positivity, it was so refreshing to get a look at the players in the real world & not on a TV screen. Scienza & Jander look like some seriously quality buys. If we can keep them & build around them, buy some more physical players then we might have a half decent team. Lacking experience in midfield though massively for as good Jander & Charles are, genuinely think we should bring one of JWP & Romeu back on loan/free. They would have a lot to offer for us still even if only 45/60mins+ to sure up ship a bit & help command/organise. Must win Saturday, COYS!!
No idea what that screen shot is all about. Is it good, bad, a scam? Glad I live in social media free zone. Apart from the weird world of this site.
I thought Jander had probably his worst game of the season tbh, absolutely awful for the 3rd goal. Wood similarly had his worst game of the season too.
For all the moaning about Still, I don't think there is a manager out there that gets a tune out of this bloated higgledy-piddgledy squad. We now have a squad that is 50% Championship wingers (although Scienza looks like he could be more). Yet our strikers include; Ghost legs, out of form for 3 years and 'one for the future' who has immediately been dunked straight into the Saints patented confidence blender. CBs are average Championship standard at best. Harwood-Bellis is one of the most overrated footballers to ever grace the club, Stephens 3 year deal looks every bit as absurd as we all thought it was. Wood and Edwards have seemed decent in fairness, but they are both arguably upper-mid table Championship players. Quarshie is again a prospect. Central mid includes; Shea Charles, Jander who the jury is still out on and the food poisoning man who tried to force a move from 20th in the Prem to 19th in the Prem 6 months into his contract. We have two lower Championship goalkeepers (one with wooden feet and another with wooden hands) and a third top class one who is on loan because we can't afford to pay him for the season. Just such an unbalanced mess and a very expensive one at that.
Sport Republic have got to be held accountable. It's pleasing to finally start seeing other people realise what frauds they are. It's why I just can't criticise Still too much, or the players. The rot runs much deeper, they're just the easy targets. That's not to say they're without fault, of course.
