I’ll admit I remember having this argument with you on here. It’s interesting that in recent weeks there’s a page on Twitter that posts the top possession stats amongst others. I think Saturday’s 1 out of the top 8 possession won.

it does feel like football is currently leaning to counter attacking football to combat the years of possession based dominance.

To be honest, it wasn’t you I had in mind when I wrote that. It was someone else who comes out with these things but never admits they may be wrong and gets involved in long, convoluted arguments to try and backtrack.

......
Cracking effort tonight, bring on the Southern softies on Saturday.
Agree about the cracking effort... Wonder if Ipswich had the same sentiment tonight re: the softies....Just in case you don't know they lost at home 0-3 to those same softies!!

Cracking first half, 2 great goals, and could easily score one or two more.

2nd half as probably expected with the players Leicester have they improved and we had to batten down the hatches to a large degree. However, to only concede the one goal, which to be fair was a wonderful strike, the boys handled the situation admirably.

Very hard to single out any player, but Ajayi and Hughes were excellent, as was Drameh and Giles. Amir goes quietly about his work, and his passing and in particular the weight of pass is excellent.

Slater and Crooks were outstanding as were Gelhardt and Millar, so please for Millar to ave a really good game topped off by a wonderful taken goal.

Joseph isn't going to be a prolific goalscorer, but he certainly runs his socks off and keeps back-lines occupied.

3 win on the trot, winning at home regularly, the future is starting to look bright.

Kyle Joseph is a bit like our Dirk Kuyt. Just keeps on going, gets about a lot up top, pops up centrally or wide and picks up some rewards here or there. Not a stand out name amongst some of the others in terms of technical ability, but his overall contributions to the team keep getting him selected, and deservedly so.

Excellent team performance - it really is starting to come together - we have some good players and first half we could have had four or five with better finishing - second half they came at us a lot more - they were very good on the wings and Dramah in particular stuck to his task and kept at the winger - I can't help thinking that Coyle would have left him too much space and would have been run ragged - hopefully now, Dramah gets some game time after that performance - Crooks was immense in the middle with a 5 star performance as was Hughes and Ajayi - thought we defended really well until the last 15 minutes then we started to do our best to **** about trying to dribble it out rather than passing it out or even hoofing it out - what ever we were trying to do isn't good for low blood pressure - anyway another win, another good performance and a million miles away from the 'were getting relegated and Acun's a ****' comments from some - you know who you are - at the start of the season - keep this up and dare to dream!!!

I said early doors this could be the year for Acun to go all in. Then we got the embargo.
I don’t think Southampton will go up. They had record lowest points last year and struggled to get promotion the previous season, I just sense they are on a slow decline.
Aren’t Leicester facing a points deduction?
I did assume Ipswich and Sheffield Utd would be up there, but both now have a lot of ground to make up.
It’s definitely there for the taking for someone
genuinely think if he'd gone all in we'd have ended up with an unbalanced squad.....the transfer restrictions a blessing in disguise

Charlton only had the same amount of possession, less than 35%, away tonight as we did at home but won 3-0 at Ipswich. Should be interesting. I remember some saying that possession was all important because possession lead to more chances which should lead to more goals. A lot of the games recently show that is not the case.
Think Charlton will sit deep and counter - we can’t both do that - the middle would be empty LOL

Amen to this. You’d also think our UEFA pro licence coaches know a little bit more about the game than everyone that repeatedly knocks him. He’s a vital cog in the machine.

That's fine, we saw what we could do with the bulk of possession against Oxford.

Think Charlton will be a bigger challenge than Southampton, Birmingham or Leicester. Despite being the weakest of the promoted teams on paper, they’ve exceeded expectations and put in some good performances and got good results.

They don’t concede many at all, which is impressive for a promoted team. Really disciplined side and we shouldn’t underestimate them.

Fair enough. I remember having similar conversations and I must admit it’s refreshing to see the game evolve back into this style of football
