That is a fair argument for the odd season. But when you are talking about not far off a decade of decline its completely different. I've been there through highs and lows, and I think 99% of fans accept you'll have crap seasons, but what we are experiencing now is way more than just a couple of bad years. We are seeing our club being slowly but surely ground down into the dirt.
At the end of the day Still is too defensive minded for us in this league and it's going to cost him his job.
The highlight of the night was clearly bumping into Libby in the concourse and then us turning around to find Lincs standing behind us.
But why was the away support largely poor last championship season too? I remember specifically the Bristol City game being awful and we hadn't lost in over 3 months. Wonder if the fact it was our biggest allocation playing a part... I'm not saying you're entirely wrong by the way mate and it's definitely a factor as people are lackingtolerance/resilience. I just think it runs a lot deeper than that personally and strongly believe the bigger numbers aren't unrelated. Some people are willing to sing just not about the club it seems. I tried to get a 'we all follow Southampton' going on a couple of occasions tonight - while we were playing well - and the most who joined in was maybe 25 people. Someone shouts football in a library and you instantly get about 2k join in. Which sums it up for me.
Just back from the game. Pathetic again. Concede and fold like a pack of cards. Again the 3 CB just invites pressure and mistakes. We play a wing back in Fraser who just refuses to take on the full back which resulted in Edward’s trying to do it as you could see he was getting pissed with the ball being played back all the time. The constant playing across the back just slows the game down and as I’ve said before, we need the extra body in midfield. Go get Romeu and get Antonio training with us to see if he’s pro football capable after his accident.
I don't blame Fraser for that though. He's someone who has spent most of his career as a left winger (usually one who likes to whip in an early cross), and yet we're randomly asking him to play RWB: one of the most integral positions in a system using three CBs. Utterly infuriating.
And that’s one of the many reasons the system doesn’t suit any of our attacking players. We don’t have a genuine right wing back.
I don't think it's random exactly. I'm sure I heard Alfie House say on TSP that Fraser has told Will Still he sees himself as a right wing back or a 10 but not a winger.
Well that was utter ****. My sat nav decided to send me round the magic roundabout on the way home just for a little treat too. And i've had drink up thy zider stuck in my head the entire way. I don't know what the answer is at all at this point. Was it Ronnie Edwards pushing forward that left that massive exploitable gap in the middle all game? I have been scratching my head about it.
Brave of Will Still and the players to venture just over the halfway line towards the away fans at the end, look at us and clap for all of 4 seconds before ****ing off. Cowards. Anyway, I'm not going to do something long sweary post match rant. Most of its been covered and I'll add nothing new. I'm done, I just don't care anymore. The club is rotten from top to bottom.
