Extremist on all sides have to much influence nowadays, was just reading and article on what reeves might do in budget, might be guardian, saying might clamp down on motorbility scheme, by taking expensive cars off list etc and limiting the people who can apply for it, straight away some group on the left bringing up the most disabled people will be stopped from getting out to work etc, also would not be able to pay for modifications to said car, when any normal person agrees with motorbility for that class of person.
I think the right also have the same level of indoctrination. At the moment they dominate the media because they’re backed by big money. People need to think their way round the narrative we’re being fed ‘millionaires are leaving’ being one of them. Tax the selfish unpatriotic twats. Reform are the leaders of that camp. I wouldn’t say I strongly identify with either side - I’m definitely not a fan of the cult of Corbyn, Ash Sarker etc. I support aspects eg privatised services that make ok sense like water, travel. But I don’t think many services should be down by the local authority eg youth services, community development should just Ben run by the not for profit/ community sector. I don’t think I clearly land anywhere. But Reform and the Tories are nasty bastards and I campaign against evil ****ers who don’t give a ****e about suffering or everyday people. I also have enough to say about the Starmer McSweeney show who are just like liberal Tories with better public service design. I think the revolution starts with tackling wealth inequality, it’s the only thing that will reduce pressure on us and at this point only the Greens and possibly Liberals have the balls to do it but neither feel like they are run by people like me. In fact none do currently.
Agree with that point. Everything shouldn’t cause outrage. Like Saf said if we want things to be better we need to give a bit of something somewhere. I agree with Labour though that those who can need to help more, but not alone.We need to make it socially acceptable to put in in order to help the needy. The needy don’t need Mercs.
I agree with a lot of what you say but I differ in if a person has made money by building up a business or good investments, he should be allowed to keep and spend his money any way he see fit to. If i invested my spare cash instead of blowing it on horses or football betting and it turned good and I made a lot of money, why should it be taxed more than normal.
Because they are taking all of the available things we need, like housing because they can and driving up prices for our children who may never be lucky enough to have the same opportunity. That’s the simple answer. Look at the lens of fairness for everyday kids growing up not the person who has more than enough. I fail to understand why working class people have drifted towards the defence of wealthy people who care little for working class kids, or adults. We aren’t talking about people with a few hundred K made out of fencing, there are some way beyond that and they need to be managed. It’s a sign that their plan is working and some are walking blindly into it.
The wealthy people are talking about were once just normal people who go lucky by hard work. I agree about the lorded gentry though. You bring up housing but will not admit that allowing in up to a million people has no effect on housing, clamp down on second homes and Airbnb but from what I read most buy to let's are owned by working class people who had to look for different pension investment when government started messing about with pensions
A graph i have already posted showing beyond a certain point some economists argue diminishing tax returns occur. That however does not get around the glaring unfairness of a flat rate tax. If earnings are say £20,000 pa and tax 40%, net pay is only £12,000, very probably leaving you unable to make ends meet. A tax for this person of say 10%, would be better. If earnings are £100,000 a 40% tax rate leaves £60,000, surely still able to make ends meet. So the argument goes for progressive taxation, those that have more, pay more.
I don’t know enough about all this to say much but something shocked me on Question Time this week. It seems 50 families, Duke of Westminster, etc, own 50% of the country’s wealth which is held in property, land, insurance, shares, etc. That must affect rental prices, property values, etc. As they're not building anything or manufacturing their workforce is tiny compared to their income. No idea what it all means tbh.
No not at all, the bottom 2 about right, if you could simplify the tax book by getting rid of avoidance schemes i would get rid of the 50% band and raise 40% to a lot higher level. Before I retired I was in 40% tax bracket even though I was working in a factory on the shop floor
The likes of the Duke of Westminster i am against, the people who got the wealth because their forefathers were leaders of a village and gave their own people to help the king thus getting land in return and keeping it for themselves.
