I just get annoyed when you have a valid opinion and when someone don't agree with it instead of replying in a normal way they feel the need to insult you, don't get me wrong,i don't get upset about it because we're on the internet and i don't even know or indeed care about people on here (no offence) it just annoys me that people can't just be a tad more grown up.

This is the internet. Go to any popular online forum and you'll find the same thing. It's a massive online anarchic society where people can get away with pretty much anything. Just accept it for what it is and embrace it. Then go watch some clown porn.

I had an what I thought was an innocuous post responded to in a similar way although not as outrageous as saintgreg's, possibly by the same person. I guess they large it up in the anonimity of the internet but surely the above quote is unacceptable. Its healthy to have a different opinion but whoever wrote that is out of order!

Don't really give a **** what people say or think about me on here tbh. But then I guess everyone deals with it differently.
Long as people don't get banned for saying get a ****ing grip or something as little as that. Swearing is allowed on here so people can freely use it. If it gets personal then I can see it from your point of view.

I gotta say beddy you do moan these threads always come from you and you always use the coloured text as a sign of power. Even cyprussdave is taking the piss out of this thread. Chill out and all will be good. Who's top of the league.

Thanks guys and Gals I think most of us seem to singing from more or less the same hymn sheet. Saint greg is right that is the kind of comment we can do without. A lot of things are said in the heat of the moment and it is also true that some people are offended easier than others. That is what makes it a tad difficult for us when we are trying to keep the peace so to speak. I have to say in the main you guys are pretty good and you usually respond when we pm you. There are one or two that are pushing boundaries beyond reason and it is to those that I appeal to lighten up a bit and to respect all on this board. Whether or not you think they are idiots or not, even idiots are entitled to an opinion. If they are idiots it is not for you to tell them they are!! We can all make that assumption by what they post. We mods prefer to be seen and not heard so to speak but every now and then we do have to take some action which we would rather not have to. It comes with the job unfortunately. BT

Saint Kitch..... Would you rather we just banned people rather than just give a gentle hint that they are over stepping the mark or getting close to it. You mention about power I do believe you have a thing about it. We mods have a job to do we do not have a problem with 99.9% of posters on here. Rest assured any we do have a problem with will be dealt with. You say these threads always come from me, what does that matter who they come from. Rest assured any thread of this nature and it's need, is agreed before it is put out. It is not a single decision we mods communicate very frequently not only amongst ourselves, but through out the site very regularly. So I don't think it needs me to chill out I have a sneaky feeling it is more likely you that needs to do that.

You don't have to put up with that kind of abuse. In fact you shouldn't have to put up with any. I noticed the other day you were clearly upset at people's reactions to your thread. If someone types that sort of abuse, report them to a moderator. Don't say anything, just report them. They won't be around for long.

If people can only disagree with others by directly insulting them, then it's a pretty poor forum.

I think you need to strike a sensible medium but the aggressive / offensive remarks have no pace here. I was a bit annoyed that someone edited one of my posts on another thread and whilst I have a pretty good sense of humour, the comment was then edited once more after I had riginally retruned it back to the initial statement. Shame that the perpetrator wasn't man enough to either post using his real name or indeed authorise the edit he made. I think healthy arguments are great and would encourage that but altering another person's post is really a step too far. Not in the psiirit of this board in my opinion.

Thanks to whoever closed the thread.

    Cheers

The other thing is what is termed a abusive msg?. For some people it could be the slightest thing. On the other hand some people don't find anything abusive etc. Will you judge it by each persons view?, if so you will find it very hard to manage. There should be a few rules set for what is accepted as actual abuse.

That is not an easy one to answer.....As you correctly say what is abusive to some is not abusive to others. We seem to have got it about right up to now. The site rules make a definition by saying amongst other things any thing that is likely to insult and or likely to draw a similar response. Therefore a tit fo tat scenario also sometimes this begins to effect the whole thread. In nearly every case it is a judgement call and is not an easy one.

Well those who dish out the abuse should be able to take it. It's when people who are on here purely to talk football and have no interest into getting into a row get abused that it crosses a line. Most of the time though, it seems that the so-called "abuse" has largely been aimed at people who have also been known to dish it out, which is fine in my eyes. Though it is annoying when a perfectly good thread gets ruined by pages of irrelevant squabbling.

Surely the definition of abuse is when it becomes personal. If you disagree with someone, you should set out your case and others can compare the opinions, but calling someone an idiot or a moron is hardly considered debate, is it? You haven't won a debate just because the other person goes away rather than be insulted.

Pretty much, but you can't have any complaints about being called a moron if you've already called someone a moron or something similar. That would be hypocritical. Likewise, I don't think someone can be blamed for retaliating.

Maybe not, but that's exactly what you don't want to do, because you inevitably escalate the debate into a slanging match. None of us want to read posts and threads on this forum where people are having a go at each other. Basically, just don't retaliate, don't be sarcastic and perhaps even just let it go. Plus, it's always a good idea to check whether the other person were right all along before the slanging match starts. ;)

Yup, it's not difficult to decide what is abuse or not as such. It's deciding what merits action as opposed to that which doesn't. If we deleted every post which included something like, "you are nuts if you believe Guly shouldn't start" then we wouldn't have a forum! On the other hand, posts which we have seen recently cross the line, and there seems to be a majority support for action to be taken. Please send us a PM if you come across this sort of thing and we will deal with it, but don't forget the ignore function for those who seriously wind you up.
