Pros - His pace pulls opposition defenders out of shape, creating space & opportunities for other attackers. Negatives - His stats for a Number 7 are simply horrendous. This season alone - 0 goals, 1 assist, 18 shots (2 for Jamaica), only 2 of which on target. He hasn’t scored for us since Easter. He lacks a football brain & composure. His crossing & dead balls are not that good, either. When I think of a good Charlton No.7 I think of Robert Lee, or John Robinson. Campbell isn’t in the same bracket at these predecessors. Thoughts ?
I hear you when you say he’s marmite but I’m pretty much ok with him - he’s doing a job for us. A goal or two would be nice tho I feel Kelman and his own scoring woes should be under greater scrutiny though
I like him. It remains to be seen if he can develop more composure near goal. Bree's pass for Oloafe's goal is the sort of thing he should aim for. Although tbf we don't usually have a striker in that position.
I think the position he plays in at the moment doesn’t suit him. Plenty of skill on the ball. No end product.
Given the way NJ sets up the team (non creative midfield) the onus is on the No.7 to an even greater extent to provide goals & assists.
I really want him to do well. One of our own for over a decade. He looks scary running at players and after long balls. Certainly has a presence. I think a spell as a sub, coming on around 65 minutes, might be the way forward. Unless he hits a purple patch before the next international break. Granted, no room for sentiment when our 2nd tier status is at stake. But can't help wishing him well.
It's something I've always wondered about. I imagine the coaching staff are trying, but some players have time to look up some don't.
He's not even half as good as John Robinson. He's a squad player perhaps good for the last 20 minutes of a game.
