That's God's own truth. Test Cricket, or one day County Cricket. Cricket & TV have never really mixed, especially nowadays in this pay-per-view stat-obsessed computer graphic overlay visual puke we have to endure. The Golden Age was surely to be there, maybe listening to the commentary on your radio.
When I started going in the very early 80's it was great, county cricket Thursday to Monday, with the John Player on a Sunday. Each county seemed to have around 3 or 4 out grounds for festivals, these were very popular as making a change going to the County HQ. 20/20 came in and ripped the a*** out of things and stopped becoming a spectator sport, especially for the purists who did not all the 'glitz' that came with it.
Under 10's football. You couldn't show it on telly these days of course, but I'm sure we all remember participating and watching during our schooldays. 22 kids scampering around after a football like iron filings chasing a magnet Bit like the Checkatrade group stages. Better for them than Grand Theft Auto though.
Even at u-10 level you get loud-mouth dads screaming at their kids. They get on my nerves when I walk through the park on Sundays. I can't pass a game of football but I have to stop and have a look.
I was robbed of My only hole in one by the lot in front not putting the pin back properly. They even watched it and waited to tell me.
Had the best times ever watching my son play Sunday , county and school football- but you’re right loud-mouthed fathers spoilt it !
