Yet again Etete out with what's been described as a "serious" injury sustained whilst training at Rotherham. Could even be season long from early reports and he could come back to Cardiff for treatment/rehab if it is.
Got to feel sorry for him. However with continuous injury problems there must come a time for him to decide if it is worth carrying on Since signing for us and when out on loan he seems to get no more than a run of 5 or 6 games before getting injured again. Is it to do with his physique, running style or is he just plain unlucky?
You find them in all sports at all levels. There might be a decent player in there, he just never gets a run of games for us to find out. I can think of a few Welsh international rugby players. World class. A few games, then out for months. Rinse, repeat. Even at the club I played for in Bristol. Players far better than me. If you could get them on the pitch. My policy was not to run fast enough to pull a hammy. I was pretty robust though. Can only think of two occasions where I had to come off, and only 3 times I had a string of games where I wasn't available through injury.
I just think he's inherited a "fragile" physiology from which there's no escape. We've seen it with older more experienced players who eventually have to admit defeat, but that's generally at the back end of a playing career - take Ramsey as a perfect example. Etete can't be just "unlucky" and it's not fair to call him by the derogatory term "sick note" which Zohore clearly earned with his time at the club, but at his age now (24?) he should have developed a body that can withstand the rigours of the game.
I think there are few groups. Some get lots of niggles and don't have the mental fortitude to get through it.That could be the dedication to rehab properly. Others just have fragile bodies, like Etete. In some circumstances, like Colwill snr, they need to grow into their bodies and get it battle hardened so they come out the other side.
Look at Vassell for us.... Clearly had some ability but his body just couldn't cope with the physical demands needed to be a professional footballer I don't think. I reckon I'm similar but just in reverse. I'm sure for £10k a week I could make my body train 4 times a week and run around a pitch once or twice a week but sadly I don't think I quite have the ability. In saying that, I swear I'd still have done a better job than Kanga, Niasse and Madine.
