Well done England women....now time for the men's football to start. Well that summer break went quick. Got to be honest not kept up or watched any of our Gillingham frinedlies, I'm sure I will soon be reminded of the great culinary delights our team will be serving up under our new saviour.,,,and our wonderful owners of course... 6 days and counting.
I went to the Reading friendly and it was a decent run out. We probably finished the better team but true to form of recent years, we weren't able to make enough clear cut chances to get us the goals.
How HONEST are you ? I could be described as being, old, grey, fattish and ugly -- but - I'm definitely honest ! ((( I've often mentioned that I simply don't like cheating. )))....I was wondering if any of you felt as strongly as I do when it comes to being honest --- perhaps when the cheating is at personal expense ! ...Obviously there are many forms of cheating in life... I want to raise just one form. There is a 'sports' facility close to my home address. Entry is via a QR code... It allows people to book and pay for access into the premises.. A combination lock is on the door - with the numerals given when booking ( and payment ) is made......... at least that's the theory - because - The venue is not supervised by the owners (( the Local Authority ))... The door, lock etc has become compromised - and been rendered useless - it now gives FREE access to anyone who knows how to turn a door handle ! ...The facility has suddenly become very popular - by many people (( and their dog ! )) - and becoming abused. I have given thought to the matter - and decided I cannot ignore the situation - because, indirectly, I have paid for the the facility (( through my Council Tax. ))....Recent refurbishment has cost the ratepayers (me & others), nearly £300,000... Call me a killjoy - but - I have notified the Local Authority - hopefully they will stop the trespass. I would be interested in opinion of members ---- honest opinion (( with full consideration that the cheating in question may be at your £300,000 cost. ))
I seriously hope it doesn't 'catch-on ' ! I'm not a great fan of ' Razzamataz ' in sport... I believe the participants should provide sufficient entertainment - without the nonsense of any 'sideshow.' I am glad that Vuvuzelas were a brief fad - and I've never been a fan of drums at football matches.... In cricket, it has become a feature at 100, T20, limited over matches, to have loud musak between overs - certainly 'not cricket' for me..... I have declined invitations to corporate hospitality at Kent games because I didn't want my ears bombarded every few minutes. When I watch games on Sky or TNT, I can get a little irritated with the drivel from certain commentators - and will reach for the mute button on my remote control.... It looks like I might be doing that more often - if last night's 'entertainment ' is to become common at matches. I couldn't be bothered to watch the England game v a blind schoolgirl team - instead I watched the 2nd half of Wales v Canada....... but - mainly on 'mute.' WHY ? - because of the very loud noise that came from what must have been a jazz band who had gone to a gig at the wrong venue ! The crap that was distracting my attention away from the game was almost incessant - being played (made) , during the game - and it was most definitely crap......... like a lot of so-called music - where the 'musicians ' think that shouting and being ear-bustingly loud somehow makes the crap sound sweet ! ----- or (( if the musician is female )) - the lesser amount of clothing they wear will cause listeners to only use their eyes and not ears ! ....... I use neither when it comes to these type of musicians ! I can just about tolerate 'razzamataz' between overs - or pre-match / half time occasions -- at least I can do something constructive - such as go and have a crap - rather than having to pay to listen to it !.... and I won't be watching any half time interviews with players at next years' World Cup.
Bradley Dack - injured........ I think that the medical name for Dack's injury is called : 'Olivia Attwood ' - colloquially known as ' Loose Woman syndrome. ' (( no - I don't watch that rubbish. )) I hate to see / read gossip about the relationship of other people - it's none of my business.... Unfortunately, Dack & (( particularly )), Attwood crave the attention of anyone who might be stupid enough to be interested in, or influenced by their lives...... .that sort of nonsense isn't for me - but - I can't help to see it when so much about the Dacks ( or is it Attwoods ), is being splashed over the newspapers. The only thing that interests me - insofar as it concerns Mr. Dack, is his ability to concentrate on his job for Gillingham Football Club.... I'm not sure if that's being helped when even the other Gills players are taking the P out of Dack - because of the 'loose' behaviour of Ms Attwood....... I'm sure that it must embarrass Bradley to see Mrs Dack in a bikini - on a yacht whilst being groped by somebody who isn't Mr. Dack. I hope The Dacks can have much marital bliss (together) - but - at the moment, it might be best if Bradley be given a couple of weeks of gardening leave away from GFC.... his continued presence ( under the circumstances ), will have an adverse ' influence ' on the team - it's already having an effect on opposition fans - who don't need much persuasion to extract urine.
Considering Dack has been posting things about his wife on his instagram, I very much suspect you've fallen for the standard rubbish that the Daily Mail comes up with. He's also been showing his knee strapped up and undergoing cryofreeze therapy which corroborates Ainsworth's post Bromley comments about Dack having a niggle with his knee. Lets leave his private life to him to deal with rather than stoking the fire further with only rumours.
I agree with you brb - but - I'm not the one putting the compromising photos in the newspapers ... I have stated that the private life of Dack ( or anyone else ) is none of my business - and if it didn't concern GFC, I wouldn't care a jot..... My comments refer to the effect his private life may be having on his ability to perform for GFC without his head being messed up (( and nobody needs to be a psychologist to pose the question .))
Simulation ......... or, as I call it - Cheating ! OK - it's been accepted that the penalty Gills were awarded v Bromley was a wrong decision by the referee - inasmuch that contact from the goalkeeper on McCleary was not the cause of his 'fall.' ... At the time I actually hoped that the spot kick would not be converted ........I do not like to profit from mistakes - just as much as I don't like to be disadvantaged by errors. I am disappointed that an Independent Regulatory Commission has claimed that the penalty incident was a clear case of simulation by McCleary - who has been given a retrospective red card and a two match ban....... I don't do much running these days - but - when I did, I could easily achieve near on 30 mph - as did McCleary when he ran into the Bromley penalty area..... and - many times I stumbled and fell merely through losing balance in my momentum........ and I never had anyone else trying to stop my progress - impeding my ability to stay upright. I accept that a penalty was the wrong decision by the referee. I also believe that McCleary did not ' dive.'....In his 20 year career he has never been booked for simulation - and - I suspect that it was a case of a very old footballer trying to run very fast - whilst being harassed by a defender - whilst trying to control a ball - and that he lost balance and fell over because of all of these factors - as well as his dodgy knees...........................but - none of that is clear for the Independent Regulatory Commission !
Retrospective punishment. Before VAR was introduced I welcomed the idea --- hoping that it would rectify mistakes by referees and stop cheating.... We all know how well that's going ! As somebody who upholds justice in all aspects of society, I should embrace the idea of a system that can impose retrospective punishment - to penalise wrongdoers. I've always said that cheats should not prosper -- but-- if I think that justice is ever going to prevail, I am only deluding myself....... but that shouldn't cause society to be apathetic - if nothing is done to at least punish wrongdoers, than wrong will prevail. IF McCleary did 'wrong' when he fell in the Bromley penalty area... IF he cheated, he deserves punishment.... But - was his action a clear 'wrong ' - or was it an accident ?.... If it was an accident - then any punishment is wrong...... The Independent Regulatory Commission is wrong. - just like VAR has got is wrong (( even with the benefit of multiple slow motion replays.))..Mr. Durkin ( the referee ), made the wrong decision to award Gills a penalty - but - his error was an ' accident ' - in the same way as McCleary's fall was an accident. .... The only difference is that McCleary is being punished for his accident - whereas the referee gets nothing - not even retrospectively !.... Why isn't the referee being retrospectively punished for the wrong decision to ignore the shirt-pulling of Gills players in Bromley's penalty area - when it happened directly under his nose ? I'm all in favour of justice - even retrospective justice - I have highlighted and used the word 'wrong' - when I should have said intent / intention - because if a wrongdoer is going to be punished - there must be clear intent on his/her part....... I have left a shop on several occasions - accidentally - without paying for an item that I had placed in my basket** - does that make me a thief ? The answer is ; NO, even if the result of my action was 'wrong.' ** as soon as I discovered my mistake I returned to the store to make payment.
As a Gills fan seems harsh but if Bromley player had done it I would have agreed that it was a dive. Also the knee in the face of goalkeeper makes it look worse. Bet if Gillingham hadn't scored and we lost would he of got ban. Doubt it.
You've pretty much summed my feelings up about it. It felt like cheating in the sense that the penalty should never have been awarded, rather than it be deliberate deception. We got lucky, we should never have won the game, but as fan I'm taking it. Like I've alluded previously sometimes you have to grind this stuff out to get the result and the decisions. My concern now is are the FA going to apply consistency, the answer to that will be no. Shirt pulling, hands round throats we've seen it all and nothing is ever done, young talented players getting the L2 special treatment, so you fear playing them. There's going to be a lot of Premier League players sitting games out due to suspensions if the FA applied consistency, you pretty much see cheating in every game now. Tbph it was why I enjoyed the break and actually watching the women play, it lacked the crocodile rolls, it lacked the pretend head injuries, it lacked the dives in the box, it lacked the feigned injuries, it quite simply lacked cheating, if you want Gillingham to play like that, then the FA has it's work cut out. VAR has made cheating worse, everyone now playing to the camera. Wonder how many shirts will be pulled in todays game at Priestfield. Soz gone on a bit. I did feel for Bromley it wasn't right, refs fault, and a suspension don't put it right either.
I think it's a ridiculous decision. It goes to show that the FA and PGMOL (Referee's Assocation) feel that they're above criticism. Rather than punish the referee for awarding the incorrect penalty, our player is handed a two game ban thanks to their incompetence. The level of apathy the FA/PGMOL shows to the average football club is insurmountable in an age where accountability is everything. They're an archaic organisation that massively needs reform but they'll sadly continue to sit on their arrogance rather than accept opportunities for improvement.
Apparently - it's not cheating................unless it's sustained !....Apparently, my definition of cheating is wrong ! I'm watching the Liverpool v Southampton game... A card has just been given to Saints' Cameron Archer - for sustained shirt pulling ! The Sky commentator then quoted that referees will give cards for this form of cheating - ONLY if the shirt pulling is a 'sustained' act !........that's obviously why so much shirt pulling goes unpunished.... .... Here's my thought - any amount of shirt pulling is cheating. It doesn't matter if it's only for one or two seconds - it's STILL cheating...... Try telling a woman that she isn't pregnant one or two seconds after the moment of conception ! If players got a card every time they pulled the shirt of an opponent, this form of cheating would soon stop - or are we to expect referees to have a stopwatch to time the amount of shirt pulling before a card is shown !

Ouch. I can't really comment or more so it's difficult to comment until whatever findings and judgements come out. I just hope whatever comes out in this legal action dosen't prompt the EFL to look into the club and any subsequent consequences of doing so.
I was made aware of this several weeks ago when the court papers were released. What I'm surprised most about is the timing from Kent Online, its actually not a new story, the information has been there available to report on for about two months so why now have they decided to run the story? One thing that needs clarifying though is in the KOL story it suggests players were furloughed but then carried on playing, when the court papers actually read as non-playing staff being put on furlough but then requested to continue to work.
FRUSTRATED...............I know I'll be called a bad man - but - I have got to have my say ! I expect everyone inside Priestfield left the Cheltenham game feeling frustrated.... The Cheltenham fans would have been happy with a point - but - it was obvious that they thought their team were about to commit daylight robbery. Probably 99.99% of Gills fans were frustrated at the players not achieving a cricket score with all the shots on goal...I will concede that Gills were unlucky with so many attempts being blocked - and the Cheltenham keeper doing a good job....... including extracting the urine with some cringeworthy timewasting - which was too intelligent for the idiot with the whistle.... Cheltenham were wasting time from early in the game - but no time was added on at the end of that half ! ... Having said that Gills were unlucky not to score loads - it is also said that, when it comes to luck - you have to make your own ! -- Gills didn't really do themselves any favours ... They continue to employ long throws every available time... I know the tactic can occasionally be fruitful - but - how about 'mixing-it-up a little - occasionally (at least), playing it short to allow a cross to be delivered ? ... Every opponent knows what's coming with our throws and have plenty of time to prepare....And it seems that Gills still persist with the long game - with much hoofball.................. ............... BUT - What frustrated me most DID NOT take place ON the pitch !...... Yet again I was frustrated by the ballboys / girls !.... GFC must have the worst ball 'attendants' in the EFL....It's nothing personal - as I am sure that everyone of these little people are ' lovely. ' - but - why do they not distribute a replacement ball when it goes out of play ?... and, often, they'll just sit on their stools even when the match ball literally hits them in the face - lands at their feet !.... Does the Club not tell them to keep the game moving by quickly giving out the replacement ball in front of them ?? - perhaps the Club expect these 'lovely' people to use some basic commonsense !.......................Having mentioned 'stools' got me thinking - that maybe these 'ballpeople', only get up off their backsides so that somebody else can wipe them ! ........It's worst at the Town End of the ground.... It seems that when the ball goes into the stand behind the goal - we have to wait for a Steward to go and retrieve the damned thing in order for play to resume..... but only after the opposing goalkeeper makes up his mind from where along the six-yard line he wants to place the ball...... Late in the 2nd half yesterday, Cheltenham's keeper changed that position - with the referee doing nothing !............If the referee won't give the keeper a card for obvious time-wasting, I can't expect him to give a card to ballboys ...........for their lack of commonsense. and before you call me a bad man - take a look at somebody who is more frustrated than me ........ Think you will find ball boys are not allowed to throw ball back on to pitch any longer as it may mean two balls on pitch at same time.
Well - let's just say that the ball persons at other venues - particularly in the EPL seem to be a lot more efficient.....At Priestfield there's too much time when not even one ball is on the pitch!
I noted during the first half I think it was that one of the Cheltenham players said something to a ballboy/girl on the Medway Stand side, I've no idea what it was but they greated it with a smile. Cheltenham tactics were to do anything to slow the game down due to the pressure they were under.. Second half we even placed the ball on the edge of the box for them for a goalkick. It's a difficult one for ballboys/girls because we are really restricted for space around the side of the pitch, particularly GRS side of the ground, and as alwaysright has highlighted if the ball goes into the Town End, well it's going to take a while to retrieve it. How does the Oxford car park stand deal with that. I suppose the way round it is to have a supply of new balls at the ready. I noted a game on tv not that long back, not sure who was playing it might have been in the Prem, where the ref stopped the player from toweling the ball. In an ideal world we could get ballboys or girls to do that, when it's placed back on the cone. But let's be perfectly honest here, it is what it is and anything the ballboy of ballgirl can do to frustrate the opposition is home advantage and if I'd been sitting on a little stool like they have for any length of time, I'd doubt I'd be able to move again, let alone get up. And if alwaysright was shouting at me, I'd probably lob my little plastic stool at him. <joke> Ballboys and ballgirls must remain a protected species from all of todays nonsense of continuious rules, you'll get the ball back when they are ready.
