An on target shot can't be an OG even if deflected.

    Of course it can.

An on-target shot to the far left corner
deflected info the far right corner via an
    attempted defender block, for example.

    Depends on the deflection

If it deflects a couple of inches beyond the keeper's reach, it's given to the shot-taker
If it deflects in a completely different direction, or takes a wild spin so loops over the keeper, it's given as an OG

No. If it's on target, goes to the shooter.

You don't get the negativity because you don't share it <laugh> I just explained my negativity in the comment you replied to.
I do not like keepers who parry rather than catch. It's an age old argument and it's all about opinions.

IMO Vicario is a poor decision maker in his distribution. He does not command his area, often looks to be in a panic as he screams at a team mate. He is often an amazing shot stopper but the rest of his game does not fill with me with confidence.

He has improved, if you remember how he was bullied at corners that's now a bit better but IMO he often fails to come and catch a ball that he could to snuff out the danger.

These are just my opinions it's not scientific and I won't die on a hill for them. It could be that I am just out of touch with the modern game. I get the idea of trying to draw the other team forward by passing about at the back but they don't often seem to take advantage by then playing a deep ball forward. Having said that, I can see that Frank is addressing that and we are mixing it up more.

Vicario 'came for the cross' that Rodon wastefully headed against the post. He didn't get anywhere near being able to flap at it..at best, he was yards away from it.

We'll not be winning much of anything with a 'keeper whose judgment on 'when to come' is that far awry.

He's very lacking in the coaching that could have made more of his natural talent. We need to go shopping, as he ain't ever going to be good enough.

Did Ange really choose him over Raya...? <laugh> <doh> <wah>

Raya did exactly the same thing in the match against West Ham! He probably makes fewer mistakes but stops fewer goals too.

Ask any expert and they’d choose Raya over Vicario.

Vicario is closer in quality to Onana and Sanchez than he is to Raya and Allison

For me another important consideration is the fact that we are still conceding a lot of decent chances to the opposition. This wasn't so much the case at the very beginning of the season when we were focusing intently on the defensive side of the game, but as creativity has become a growing issue, Frank has had to loosen things up a bit and the result is that we've looked a lot like a Postecoglou side in recent games. Bodo, Brighton, Leeds, and Wolves all created a fair few good chances, and it is a fairly simple and inevitable outcome that if the opposition frequently has the ball in dangerous positions, you'll either make a mistake or a goal will be scored.

It's clear that we still need to get the defence-midfield balance right. The back 4/5 currently picks itself with Spence/Udogie being the only question mark. But Frank doesn't yet know his best midfield combination, nor how he'd like to deploy Palhinha. Until then, I expect us to continue gifting the opposition numerous chances and it could well be that Raya looks much better than Vicario simply because Arsenal are much better and more settled than us overall defensively, and concede very few clear chances as a result.

I think Vicario is probably around the 7th-8th best keeper in the Prem at the moment, so not terrible but not where we need either. It’s a position that after LW and ST (unless Kolo turns out to be a huge success) should be addressed if the club is genuinely serious about challenging and winning multiple trophies.

If we do manage to sort a top LW, ST and GK within the next two windows, Frank will be going into the 26/27 season with a very good XI and more importantly a very decent squad. Our bench would potentially consist of the likes of Spence, Danso, two from Bentancur, Sarr and Bergvall and two from Kudus, Kulu, New LW and Maddison.

Vicario has several technical failings as a keeper - and his vulnerability at corners and other dead ball situations is masked by the improved defenders around him rather than his own skills in dealing with the 'attention' of opposition players. He still exudes an air of uncertainty that I am sure impacts the confidence of those around him

However, I am equally concerned by aspects of his character - in particular his -dare I say, cowardly - verbals at young players. He appears like someone who is reluctant to take any responsibility for his own errors and failings.

There is no 'perfect' keeper, but there are a fair few who are a lot closer to that pinnacle than Vicario. :emoticon-0148-yes:

Are we really saying David Raya, the keeper beaten by Pape Sarr from 40 yards in pre-season after being caught in no man's land when trying to clear the ball, is the sort of keeper we should be looking at?

He’s a lot better than Vicario.

    Every keeper makes mistakes.

I think that we should try to bring in some real competition for Vicario in January.
Loan out Kinsky, so that he can get regular football, fulfil his potential and get some experience.
I don't think that Vicario's doing badly, but he and we need another option to avoid complacency.

Not necessarily, but he's still an improvement on Vicario.
