Being booed comes with the territory of being a professional footballer. Huge difference between that and being singled out for abuse on social media.

But when you are getting both? This is so disingenuous. Supporters are not supporting him in any sense. Let’s not pretend that this is how you get the best out of young players.

And by not doing the above he's going to magically get better?

Be real, he's a God awful signing.

I don't blame him though, I blame Spors for signing him

Not magically, no. But time and support are huge in making progress in any field. I have never improved in any job where people pecked at me and belittled me, but when people are supportive you grow. It amuses me that you don’t blame him but at the same time don’t believe he should be treated better.

I am going to add something again, and this might sound harsh, but a decent fanbase, on hearing their new player has received such awful online bullying, would be singing his name and cheering him a but louder.

Because that is what good humans do.

Plenty of jobs where time and support doesn't happen. Don't get to cry into 10s of 1000s a week wages though so I'm sure he'll get over it.

I wouldn't go out of my way to message him abuse on social media, but the idea that if we were just a bit nicer he'd learn to jump and run is a bit nonsensical.

Can you manage to respond without nonsensical strawmen? He clearly can run and clearly can jump. That is insultingly pathetic. In the Liverpool game ge tried too hard and ran all over, making a mess of everything. This week someone had clearly told him to calm down a bit. When your head is full of criticism you aren’t going to make the best decisions.

And grow up with all this justification of abuse. You don’t abuse colleagues or allow it to happen.

Of course I don't abuse colleagues but the general public does. I've had people:

    Threaten to rape my wife
Tell me they're going to rape my kids
Tell me they're going to burn my house down with my children in it
    Wish my kids get cancer
    Threaten to blind my children

All of which for a sum less than he earns in 2 weeks. People calling him **** isn't that big a deal is it?

Of course he can run and jump, as can I. Doesn't mean I can do it at Championship level of football though

And how did those events make you feel? Better about life? What a perverse way to respond to life:

People have been mean to me and I don’t earn as much so this **** can take all the abuse and get on with it.

    Pathetic.

I get both sides here, even though I despise booing. The lad needs a run of games in the U21s...

...which got me on to thinking about something.

Nick Oyekunle is the record holder for any U18 team anywhere, any team for goals. He's got 4 in 6 now for the U21 team too.

I know he's only 18, and I know it's very early to be saying it (plus he's not a big striker profile, he's another miniature man). But...hmmm...I wonder when he gets a shot?

Well actually I was pointing out he doesn't take anywhere near the level of abuse anyone in front line public sector does, it seems relatively calm in comparison. And yes take the abuse and get on with it, just like anyone else has to.

I'm not sure why you're so keen to go in and bat for the bloke.

And if plays badly, gets bullied off social media and the fans turn on him he will be a player with no talent and no future…

I am just batting for common decency. You seem to be batting for being an arsehole. I am amazed that every time you go to work you are getting abused by hundreds of people and you still don’t let it affect your mood or performance though.

You have really inserted yourself into your negative online persona in a way that comes across like vile inhumanity to me.

Actually thinking about it Os probably has it spot on. His ****ness wouldn't be the focus of fans attention if he'd hadn't been signed as our main striker on the back of last season. He probably does need a spell out of the team

Yeah, but I don’t give a crap about your future performance.

You have said in the past the fans can’t raise their game for crap performance. But apparently the players are supposed to raise their game for crap fans like you.

He’s a crap signing. Not his fault but he’s quite clearly been a terrible signing unless he very very quickly hits some form. We didn’t need a player who needed time to adapt and cheers from the fans for a season before contributing anything. We needed a Championship striker, who had played in the league and gotten goals, who would hit the ground running. I feel almost vindicated because many on here argued with me that we didn’t need a striker and that we had enough up front. But I’m just so used to SR ****ting the bed and our horrific form of signing strikers that it stood out like a sore thumb.

Starting the first game with Armstrong upfront after basically 8 months of preparation was all the red flags I needed to see how this season was going to go in terms of goalscoring.

I do feel for him and it's not his fault at all ultimately, I feel sorry for him a bit really as it's not entirely fair that he's put in a position where he needs to deliver immediately.

The problem lies squarely with SR/Spors imo for leaving us so light in that position. He may well develop into a decent player at this level in time, I'm certainly not writing him off in that respect.

However he clearly looks well off the required standard now and more like one for the future which isn't what was needed for that position at all, especially given the situation with Stewart and the question marks around whether or not he could maintain his fitness.

It's absurd that we've put ourselves in this position, and I think that feeling is magnified by the perception that investing in the future rather than the here and now has been a common theme since SR took over.

He's not getting jeered every time he touches the ball though is he? That's a huge exaggeration!

As for the booing I made my personal feelings clear on that Saturday night but it's not exactly a huge rarity. Fans who perceive that their team have performed badly will have at least some who will boo at probably 80% of clubs.

Which makes no ****ing sense as a game plan because they sell any potential future the second it starts performing well. We are not a football club anymore and haven’t been for many years.
