Ladies and gentlemen we moderators have had a number of complaints over the last few days in regards to aggressive posting. When replying and disagreeing with other posters points of view. Normally these are dealt with by PM. We try as much as possible not to get involved as these type of silly exchanges tend to be over rather quickly and therefore do not usually effect the board as a whole. We have noticed however the these "spats" are becoming more frequent and prolonged. This cannot in any shape or form be blamed on anyone else but ourselves. It could be that perhaps we the moderators need to take more drastic action to curb this. Firstly I would ask you to refrain from these aggressive remarks, it really does nothing to enhance your argument anyway. We are not saying you should not disagree just to curb the personal and aggressive remarks. We have no option to deal with personal remarks as it is against site rules. So how far do you the posters want us to go or what action do you think we should take to curb the aggressive posters?
Bing bing. Maybe a structured three strikes system - First offence formal warning Second offence week suspension Third offence and out As long as they're well judged and moderated then it's fair. Heated debates are cool, personal insults are not.
I think the important thing is that you shouldn't get drawn in to the torrent of abuse. If someone starts calling you names then just politely ask them to stop, but on no account start abusing them back. If the abuse continues, then you can ask the mods to do something with a clear conscience! I do agree that a graded 3 strike rule should be brought in. There are a few people frequenting the board nowadays who I wouldn't mind never seeing another post from, unless they can start behaving in a more mature fashion. (And the ignore button isn't the answer, that just means you're censoring the board. We shouldn't have to do that!)
What about a naughty step for anyone that says something that upsets another user, or we could make them wear a pointy hat with a D on it and we can all point and laugh at them till they realise how bad they have been.
They know who they are. We know who they are. If personal shame at what they've posted hasn't already stopped this, then I suspect that a few members will be banned permanently quite quickly, three strikes or not!
I really must miss all the fun cause i've never seen anything agressive all i ever see is the mod's moaning about agression, what is the best time of day for me to see all the action.
Not really Adam as most respond to the pm's we send. You have to remember that we too have bosses and they tell us what they want doing. Also they go over our heads and take action that we know nothing about sometimes too if we haven't taken any. So although we are in the main the moderators of this site a lot of complaints go directly to admin and they often take action before we know what has happened. So it is not just we local mods that are on the case!!
must have missed all this. think the internet drives people crazy a bit, tis good to have a bit of a break sometimes.
I had enough of people having a go at me, being offensive and generally disrespecting me everytime I put an opinion accross in a post. Hence the reason I don't post on here very often anymore.
You just have to take it a lot of the time - odds are it's probably not deliberately offensive. I've been called an "aggressive poster" but I'm normally not deliberately malicious. That's why I reckon, if a three strike system were to be brought in (it should be) that distinctions would have to be made between agressive and assertive.
There are one or two on here that need to grow a slightly thicker skin. What's offensive to some is not to others. It's a question of where you're threhold is. I might have a pop now and again but it's never with any real venom. Most of your regulars and ex-606 posters know that I'm sure. So don't start going down this regulated 3 strikes road, just ignore and complain if you wish- just as I did the other day about a posting re. Gary Speed from a numpty called Eric the Viking (Nothing to do with anyone from Pompey I can assure everyone)
Here's one the more recent responses to one of my posts : 'You are a ****ing idiot. Get a ****ing grip you clown' I'm not a feeble person, I already have thick skin etc etc. But honestly, tell me, is there really any need for that on a forum like this!? It's posts like this that Beddytare is clearly talking about.
Well, no, I don't agree with it being a case of "If you get offended it's your problem." That can't be controlled, but people being deliberately offensive can - surely protection should be given to stop people getting offended, rather than protection be given to allow people to offend.
