If he got off a train in Hull and saw the Driffield train on the patform he could have just walked onto the Driff train was the point I was making. There are barriers at most major statins now you're right but I read it as him pulling into Hull on another train and seeing his Driff train standing on another platform.
It’s a fair comment, although that tends to only impact on very localised water. Widespread floods in Hull tend to be more about the volume and the fact parts of the city, and even more parts of the drains, are below sea level (so they can’t drain regardless) Can’t help though, although I’ve certainly noticed in Anlaby we get less local flooding after the defences were put in
Highways agency claim the A63 flooded due to the volume of rain fall. The Met Office say only 5mm of rain fell in that area. There's much more on the way. Also travelled from Beverley to Hull via Woodmansey and Dunswell, the drains on that route were more like flower boxes than water soak aways. The river Hull at the Kingswood bridges is now only about 6 to 8 foot wide, full of greenery. Same applies to barmy drain. If the waterways are full of silt and plants where does the environment agency expect the water to go.
Clive Sully way has been open about 40 years , never heard it had flooded til the last few years , so something has changed ?
Millions of pounds were spent on flood alleviation schemes all around the West Hull villages after the floods and they work, don't these other areas have them?
Other areas like the A63? They spent millions on the riverside defences after all those car places between the road and the river got flooded. Maybe the water can't get away.
I listened to the Curiosity podcast about it the other week and the landlord was really impressive. Talked everything up, was really positive about what you can do with a bit of will, and how the breweries often can't be arsed, and then blame all the external factors when their pubs fail.
Some of the weeds on Hedon Road are as big as trees.. perhaps the inmates at the Prison should be tasked to clear them
Ah Didn’t realised you were talking about the road. My mistake. I was thinking more of the widespread 2007 type stuff. Definitely won’t help if there’s silt and blockages
Plants are not the reason for somewhere flooding and make zero difference to the flow of water and not everywhere is full of silt. Building over and culverting some of Hull's larger drains over the last 70 years and reducing capacity as well as building to many houses on land that previously flooded hasn't exactly helped things. Neither as everyone concreting over the front drive helped. The various new flood allevations schemes since the floods of 2007 work great and more is being done in this area to identify suitable areas.
