In the 1950-51 photo my husband tells me that Raich Carter is flanked by the 3 Needler Brothers with Harold on his immediate left. Behind Harold is Billy Bly and the second player to Harold's left is Eddie Burbanks.

Also waiting to be identified in the photo incude Alf Ackerman,Syd Gerrie,Viggo Jensen,Ken Harrison and Neil Franklin plus a young Jock Davidson. Ackerman (a South African) was top scorer that season with 19 league goals.(Carter 17 plus 2 Cup)

Well done C’r and Mr and Mrs BMB. C’r has given me the full 65 – 66 team but I think the 50 – 51 squad might take a while longer. Below is what we have so far (tell me if any are wrong). Sorry Mrs BMB, I haven’t included the other two Needler brothers until we get the names.

26 doesn't look like Bly to me,I don't see him on the photo and Bulless had the double "S"........... Viggo 35, Harold Meens 22, Tom Berry 23, Durham 37?,Franklin 27?, Ken Harrison 1,Allan Mellor 6, Ackerman 15?, Gerrie 39?,Jock Davidson 2?, and agree Bulless ,Carter,Burbanks &,,Revie others look familiar but my memory for faces is not the best.

My husband says you are a hard task master! Other Needler brothers John and George Henry. No 31 is possibly the groundsman Stan Coombs. He will eat his hat if No 26 isn't Billy Bly( check his photo on Hull cityMad legends list)- perhaps a photo in his flat hat would have been better. He was out injured during that season, however, and only made 5 league appearances. Willie Buchan left in 1949 so will not be there but Bill Harris would be (1950-1954). Neil Franklin did not come until early 1951 so photo was taken in 1951. Would go No 27 for Neil.

<laugh><laugh> Sorry MrBMB I hope you're not getting a headache squinting at those faces.
Anyway I've added the extra names to the picture above rather than copying it again and I think you're right about Billy Bly because he would definitely have been in the squad picture.
So that's 20 names so far - halfway there!

Sorry to spoil the party but that 31, Stan Coombes, is not the Stan Coombes I remember, the Stan I remember lived in the funny shaped house right on the front of Boothferry Park car park and is still there today. If my memory serves me right there was even a rumour that Spurs were willing to pay a transfer fee for Stan to go to White Hart Lane due his superb work with the Boothferry Park pitch.

I have been informed Norman Moore played until the end of the 49/50 season as a centre forward for Hull City and then left so would not have been in the 1950/51 squad photo. Name above Meens on the scarf beginning with 'S' is an interesting puzzle though.

Just found this for the 48 - 49 team with names so hopefully some of them were still in the 50 - 51 squad.

Mrs BMB my memory isn't the best but I recall a Frank Seddon playing for the tigers around that time and I think he captained the side for a period. If that is the photo of Billy Bly it is not a good likeness.Bly was often injured usually with broken bones ,which at one time prevented him playing for the England "B" team for which he was selected.

This photo completely discounts my husbands previous post as board Chairman Percival is No 13 and No's 9 and 14 are returned to the unidentified list. Also the photo identifies the name on the lady's scarf as Seddon.

In the years after finishing playing football, I believe Harold Meens was a plasterer on building sites in the Hull area. I was on one such building site where someone pointed him out to me, but I could never be sure if it was a wind up or not.

I hope that is Bill Harris dem_on, because if it is it's the only picture I can find of him. Can we have clarification from anyone else please? He was definitely in the squad (details below):
"Bill Harris started his footballing career with local club Swansea City but failed to graduate beyond the third team and so moved to Llanelli in 1949. After just six months at the club he signed for Hull City for £2,000.
He played 131 games for Hull before a move to Middlesbrough in March 1954 for £15,000."
Also looking at the players and staff from the 48-49 team I think the following look like men in the 50-51 team. Can anyone confirm?:
Is 36 Berry? Is 14 Harold Needler? Is 31 Lax? and as mentioned is 28 Bill Harris?

I'm almost certain Tom Berry is No23 Craig and my eyes have gone square staring at 36 and trying to put a name to him. It might be Gerry Bowler (Irish International)who was only with us for one season around 1950 and who moved on to Millwall .He played centre half for us but appeared as a Right Back and Right Half for Ireland.

This one should sort a few out. It's the 52 - 53 team.

My husband says Bowler played for Hull City in 49/50 before moving to Millwall in 1950.Neil Franklin didn't come to Hull City until Feb 1951 after a brief suspension from English football following his return from South America in late 1950. We agree Franklin is pictured in the 50/51 squad so the photo was taken in 1951 thus excluding Bowler. He agrees with you that 23 is Tom Berry and 28 is Bill Harris.

Further on the 52/53 photo Joe Robinson was at the Tigers from 48-53,Ernie Phillips 51-53,Ted Tarrant 50-53 and Will Hassall was around in 1951 so all candidates for the 50/51 squad. Also Frank Seddon was there 49-52.

Finally if may be hat-eating time for my husband if dem_on thinks no 26 is Joe Robinson rather than Billy Bly!

I am having a go myself at look-alikes from 48/49 and 50/51 as my husband hasn't done too well in identifying the 'suits'!
Would say Harold Needler is No 10 as being No 14 would really be some transformation in a couple of years! Similar comments would apply to Mr Lax.
    Hope this helps.
