So, with AJ abdicating from his pre-match thread duties, it's down to me to take up the mantle.

My début comes as Town welcome Town, or as they're know in some parts of the country, Macclesfield (The Tosspots may also ring a bell). Last time these two sides met, it was a fantastic performance from Town, taking Town apart after Town took the lead early on - Ainsworth came off the bench to net a phenomenal brace, Taylor scored a cracking equaliser and Harrold did someone for pace, before tripping over the ball and scuffing his shot just to prove it really was him!

Macclesfield presently sit slap-bang in the middle of the table (13th) and if they play to their capabilities, could push for a top 12 finish come the end of the season. That would be jolly exciting, wouldn't it? The losses of Emile Sinclair and Tyrone Barnett will have taken some of the potency from their attack, and they have only netted 8 goals away from home in League Two this season - only Bradford and the Daggers have scored less times on their league travels.

Their recent form is a slight cause for concern; their only win in their last seven came in the F.A cup first round against East Thurrock, and one has to go back to early October to find the last time they netted more than once in the league, and they drew 1-1 with non-league Chelmsford in the F.A cup second round. Tomlinson is their leading scorer with 5 goals this season, though they will be boosted by Vinny Mukendi's return after getting sent off 11 seconds after coming on the pitch against Burton.

Overall, I think the Shrews will return to form with a sparkling victory. I actually know a whole family from Macclesfield travelling to the game; Aunty, Uncle, Granddad, Mum, Dad, Cousin and the daughters, and I really hope all four of them enjoy the trip. I have already said I think Shrews will win, and I reckon it'll be kept down to a score that the family can count on one hand.

6-1 to the Shrews, Morgan, Collins (3), Wroe and Wildig, attendance 5637.

    Did you know?

    • Moss Rose has no family stand - they're all one family up there so use the whole stadium as the family enclosure.

cant i was surprised by the defeat at the weekend, we never do well at aldershot, i think they treat it as a cup final every year after the playoffs in 2004!!! but i would like to see that we could put away macc quite comfortably, with our passing and pace being too much for them on the lovely greenhous meadow.
lionel seems to play better, the more luminous his boots, so hopwfully he has some new boots- bright yellow pink and lime with disco lights on, we should see a brace from him on sat!

There are a few shuts in old towns similar to Shrewsbury with a name like grope lane and they were very descriptive of what happened down them!!

Haha trouble is I've used up all my cheapos on Macclesfield, dunno how I'm gonna rip into Hereford/Port Fail when all my insults are used here!

AJ - look at the first result there when you search "define an english person" into Google!

bora da many thanks, and oh to be called young man. it quite brings back memories of carnaby st., similar greetings to you and all the swans. absolutely delighted the swans are more than holding their own in the prem league, perhaps it was through the lessons you learned at little old shrews in the carling.

once we have disposed of boro, in the 3rd round we may bring new year cheer to the valleys in the 4th or 5th round. good luck and thanks for the greetings

Funnily enough I have started reading Notes From a Small Island by Bill Bryson and he refers to said lane mentioned above.

Merry Christmas to you PGFwhite, lets hope your team gives you cheer over the festive period

I do hope it isn't called off, it's the only home game until mid January, and sadly all the away games are not possible pour moi.

Wouldn't worry gents, they've been forecasting doom and gloom in Powys for weeks now, all for nothing. BUT it would be highly typical for it to snow like hell from now til Sat :emoticon-0114-dull:

Watched Macc last night against Chelmsford. Not overly impressed. Donnelly has pace up front and Tremarco likes raiding forward from fullback. They also have a long throw merchant.

Must win game for Macclesfield to build on their cup performance.

    Shrewsbury 3 Macclesfield 0 (Morgan 3)

    Attendance 4515

Cheers MF. BTW if you like Peep Show then watch Spaced they have a character called Tyres

I need to update the prediction league  so I'll get on yo that tonight. Regarding the sticky's they could be pinned at the top, they can always be unpinned if not needed at a later point.
