Sell Torres in the January transfer window

  1. Setting aside what price you could get for him or which club he would go to, would you be in favour of selling Torres in the January window? The principle benefit would be that you would free up a place in the squad for another striker, one who is going to fit more easily into your system.

The principle downside is that your owner is likely to lose a huge sum on what he paid for Torres.

The risk to be weighed-up is: will Torres ever come good enough, quick enough to justify the wait, or should you cut your loses now, in the hope of getting in a player who can do the business for you?

I'd give him the rest of the season to settle in, plus theres always the chance he may have a good turn in the Euros which would drive his price up if we did decide to sell him at the end of the season. Player prices always seem to sky rocket just after major international tournaments.

Lets be serios, Anelkas going, Drogba probably going in the summer and Lukaku is way off being ready for first team action every week.

That leaves 2 proper strikers, Sturridge who has been amazing on the right side of the top 3 and Torres. We need to buy if anything not sell off a potentially world class player on the cheap.

If we want Torres to thrive, lets buy another creative player to play in the middle of the park who can get him the assists he needs (or put Mata in the middle) like when he had Alonso and Gerrard at his peak.

  5. You're talking about changing the team to suit Torres' play, and that is something I would absolutely agree with. Why spend £50 million on a player and then waste money trying to fit him into a system that obviously does not work for him? It's pointless and extremely wasteful.

The real question is, does Chelsea have the ability or motivation to change its system of play to fit around Torres, and is the club prepared to take the chance that any new system won't work? AVB may consider that the simplest thing to do would be for the club to cut its losses, sell Torres, and get in a new player. That's not what I would do, but then I don't know the ins and outs of your squad, or how easy it would be to get the existing players up and running and playing with a system that best suits Torres.

If you are waiting for Torres to change his play to fit in with Chelsea's current system, I rather fear you will have wasted your £50 million.

No I wouldn't sell Torres in the January transfer window considering that Drogba and Kalou will be off to ACON that month and Anelka has left. If Chelsea sold Torres then we would only have Sturridge and Lukaku as our first and second choice strikers. AVB has confirmed that the rumor is not true and Torres is not for sale at any price.

The main issue is, he needs to be playing regularly which he isn't right now.

No point selling him as well even more now especially as it looks like Villa will miss euro 2012 so torres is going to get a run of the games their

Have you heard of this practice where you hand over millions of pounds and a new player joins? I know it never happens at Chelsea, but could happen.

  12. Why would we do that?

I cant see us drastically changing our style of play this season now but ultimately attacking wise, our team has been set up around Lampard and Drogba for a long time now. Drogba is probably going in the summer and neither player is getting any younger. Sooner or latter we are going to need a new midfielder to dictate games in the middle of the park and who may or may not get more out of Torres.

We tried and failed with Pastore and Modric in the summer so the intention is there to play more expansive football that I think would help Torres. I'm sure we will continue with that pursuit in Jan/summer. In the meantime, Torres can still have an impact but is being kept out the team by a resurgent Drogba.

We are far more likely to sign Modric than sell Nando in Jan.

With Spurs sliding down the table and our annual mashing of the Harris Pipers approaching,
Moddy's head is about to be turned again..

  18. More like his stomach, at the thought that he almost made the gravest mistake of his career by joining AVB's disjointed band of not-so-merry men <ok>

The thing is, if you do beat us in our up-and-coming match, it will mean that Moddy isn't really all that good. More likely that we will smash you again, and Moddy will have been confirmed in himself that he made the right choice to stick with the mighty Spurs juggernaut.

    That's my guessing.
