My thoughts which nobody asked for was that I was crying out for him early in the summer but felt he was destined for Bayern. I actually think a lot of top tier clubs had the same feeling. We then got insanely lucky that Bayern couldn’t get him and swooped in, but for me he’s the best centre forward in terms of potential and ability in the world. That sounds ridiculous, and biased, but I knew when we signed Isak he was top class but Woltemade is better. Also he has a longevity, and an ability to drop. Hes a sensational player, new Thomas muller.
Kicking aside pope has looked incredible. Botman, Thiaw, Tonali, Livramento, Hall are all very close to being at the top. Bruno and Joelinton are mostly excellent, Ramsey and Gordon can be really good. It’s a decent team.
Newcastle were probably always there and the price was going up until Bayern dropped out. The same thing with Sesko... Man United were always there and Pedro Chelsea were always there. I don't think clubs just come in late out of nowhere.. They watch, and sniff around players, contact clubs and make the bid when ready. Everyone involved knows who's interested and sometimes the players just wait for their preferred option.. This scenario is why Newcastle are accused of being slow. This summer the media simply enjoyed selling the narrative the Newcastle were being trumped or that they were slow and useless.
The best thing is.... he's not had much time to be built up and trained by Eddie and the team. He's only going to get better as ISAK was at the early stage too.
In the same sense the cult point at the quality of opposition after defeats I'm going to suggest a little caution surrounding the opposition last night. It was encouraging and a good win on the road. Osula looked shocking only a few days prior vs Arsenal. Eddie Howes in game management was been questioned not his coaching after another late defeat.
I think Isak was a selfish player in hindsight.. Go back and watch the cup final.. His 1st reaction isn't excitement when burn scores he's disappointed it wasn't him. Woltemade is a better person, he's less selfish, he can do things Isak couldn't like hold it up and pass. He's not as fast and maybe not as good at finishing, but that remains to be seen. It looks to me like Newcastle already have an elite player and I believe myself and few others wanted him all summer... All the idiots... Might change my name to the idiots actually following Bayerns sour grapes attack.
Bayern wanted him badly and thought they could get him on the cheap. They know he’s an elite player. The signs are there he is magic with his feet. Wasn’t he top scorer at the u21 World Cup recently?
One thing I'm sick of is the very apparent dislike from these arsehole clubs towards Newcastle. They don't like Newcastle because they are threatening to actually compete with them and that the bottom line. That's what's really behind every visibly upset display. The player too? How ****ing horrible for the lad to hear that. He's proving them to be the idiots though, so far.
Must be buzzing to not be in Munich playing second fiddle to Harry Kane. Question for us is what do we do when £55m Wissa is fit as well.
Rotate between Elanga/ Gordon and play Wissa ahead of Woltemade. Our forward line is going to be seriously frightening for other sides.
Yeah, we will have genuine options up front to help rotate the squad, which I don't think we've had in years. We never had a fully fit / firing version of Wilson available alongside Isak, so then who do you go back to as a real option of having 2 serious strikers available to select from?
Big Nick, as has been said, is really good with his feet and is quick thinking to boot. There was one moment last night near the half way line where he beat 3 or 4 opposition players within a tight circle when they tried to crowd him out. Summed him up for me. Never watched him before we bought him but we have a potential elite player. With his attitude and talent and EH's coaching he could become a 'great'. Obviously, early days just yet but what a buy!!!
No, no, Trev. You must keep up with the news. He is completely overrated and over priced and we were idiots to buy him. Just ask anyone from Germany. Well... anyone connected to Bayern Munich... who did actually want him and even tried to buy him, but couldn't. Anyway, they all think he is over rated and that we are idiots for signing him. So there!
Sorry, my bad. It must be true because I've always thought that you were an idiot...and Chippy...and PB...and
