McCarthy Edwards wood squashy Fellows Jander Charles manning Azaz Armstrong Archer I thought Stewart did ok but didn’t seem to win much in the air. I think goals will come from players like fellows, Azaz and Armstrong rather than our strikers.
Same team for me, worry about Derby on Wednesday morning. Especially as this is the tougher game. I just want to see us perform well again, try and build further on the previous two matches. A step backwards would be hard to take. Absolutely dreading the coach journey up there but it'll be a decent new ground to tick off and might be interesting with MLT/Franny/Beatts on board.
See if you can get any juicy gossip. None of the normal ****e we see on interviews about favourite goals etc. Find out which of our managers they thought were the biggest ****s. Ask for their opinion on Sport Republic, and see what they think of Still
Stewart will win more in the air than Archer, but I’d be tempted by the fresh legs coming in. Bring Ross on second half.
I'd start with Downes for Jander after his performance v Liverpool, I'd like to see him and Charles actually forming a partnership I'd give Stewart another start up front as he's improving and is an option for high balls and crosses. Even when he doesn't win the headers he keeps the CDs occupied and creates opportunities for us to win 2nd balls, also I'd rather have Cam on later v tired legs If we can't improve Stewart we've got a problem at No9 with the other options being 2 small guys and one ineffective guy
I see that Ings has already been injured for them (hamstring) but is now back in training. I don't know if he's recovered enough to make their bench tomorrow.
Doubt they'll give anything too interesting on SR or Still. The challenge is to find something that isn't too generic but which they'll be willing to answer honestly. Happy to take suggestions on board!
Been thinking about the three of them and what they mean to me and Southampton FC I think MLT=FB>JB? Close call though.
Interesting comment on the Youtube/Podcast about Still taking Armstrong to one side and saying what he wanted from him and for him, and Armstrong came back after the International break fitter than he was before and more focussed. Doesn't seem like BS to be fair as he has been playing better. Makes you wonder how the players were actually treated/motivated by previous coaches.
For me it’s a case of, win the next 3 and I’m still thrilled to have Will. Lose the next 3 & I’ll be on Tom’s team & joining the Will Still Out brigade! Anything in between & I’m firmly sat on the fence as it’s just simply “too early in the season to judge yet” In all seriousness, really want to see the team as Sat, we actually looked fairly cohesive & want us to find some consistency and rhythm. Backing Stewart to do another big shift, I know a lot didn’t think he did so well at the weekend and he’s obviously no SRL, but having a focal point at no.9 helped a lot. If Azaz doesn’t show up, Scienza could be a shout @ no.10 for me for Derby too!! UTS!!
A bit more than coincidental that some of the more 'regular' players were dropped and everyone thinks the performance was better. Perhaps, and I'm throwing this out there, I don't know and I have no strong opinion, the real problem for some time has been the players rather than the managers?
I always forget when actually playing in August, but the transfer window has such an impact. so many of our players didn’t know if they would still be here or where they would fit within the team/squad. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that we’ve seen a more cohesive display now players know they’re here and in the plans
