Pugh can be useful. And you know what, I don't care if he doesn't make the team 100% of the time. 500k for a utility player like him (even in reserve) is well within our means.
Leeds-18 So youd pay 500k for a utility player. Id rather have a player whos good in one position than decent in a few. For me he aint good enough for LB or LW But I actually think hes best in centre midfield of a 3
Yep. And we should still have at least 2.5m left in the bank for others as well. He's not first team standard there, but can fill in when needs be. I'd prefer him in central mid along with Clayton (and McCormack in front in a three, like you say). Obviously he didn't do well at Watford (albeit in a 4-4-2), but you can't expect instant miracles from a new pairing. Keogh I'm not fussed about. We've already got Becchio and Forssell who do his sort of thing. And score goals more often.
Leeds-18 You saying he isnt good for first team standard but would spend 500k on here, that doesnt make sense to me
I'm saying I think he is first team standard in centre midfield in our most successful formation. But even if he wasn't, a utility player is still a vital thing for promotion-chasing teams to have and we have loads in the bank which we can spend on top of that 500k, which I don't see as a massive fee for a club like us. It's hardly 37kpw on Seth Johnson.
You know full well leeds-18 there isnt alot of money in the bank for players. I personally think good players is vital for promotion winning sides, not average players who can play in a few different positions
would love to get Andrews in there mate. I know he orignally turned us down but hes scored loads for my dream team & he will add a bit of experience as well.
I did say should, as in 'if Bates gave Grayson the money he was promised'. Obviously we don't know whether that will be released to him in January; probably not is the best guess. But to be honest, it's impossible to say whether Pugh represents value for money when we don't know who else is on the market, how much they are valued at and how much is at our disposal. One of these moments where I feel a fan isn't qualified to comment unless they are talking idealistically, which is fair enough. Unless someone can intelligently speculate which other midfielders/utility players are out there and available for the sort of money we might have in the bank. Which isn't an easy proposition! Pugh could be better than average in midfield, I feel, if he's given a good run of games. It's his natural position, after all, and you don't get into the top flight unless there's something about you. At the start of the season, we should have got Cork or Gunnarsson, as well as a better centre-back. But it's hard to say whether it would be wise to dump Pugh and continue with Brown, while riskily looking to bring a younger player in during the January window.
I agree with playing pugh in the centre, I think he could be good there. And has for Brown, I hate the ****
Pugh for 500k is way too expensive. I'd rather us spend a million (although won't happen) on a quality CM than spend half that on an average player. We should be buying players that are better than what we have, as SG tried to suggest we did last year. Wouldn't you rather one quality player than the 3 average CMs in Varynen, Brown and Pugh?
Is AOB still being paid by Leeds Utd, surely he has broken his contract by refusing to play for us, constructive dismissal
Depends whether he was within his rights to refuse to play for us. Maybe Grayson did do something wrong. If the club could have shifted him, I'm sure they would have by now. He might have dirt on someone which he's threatening to spill unless we keep paying him. Just a guess.
I thought he got fined an amount of wages or something, around about the amount leading up to the transfer window. Although, this is merely something i remember reading so not entirely sure if its correct. Also on pugh, im a little torn. I think to be honest im siding with LiW, i think he isn't exactly good enough to be a first team in any areas, he merely adds balance to the team but i think that with proper money we should be aiming higher. Although on the other hand he is useful. For example, what if white gets injured? And on Keogh as well, I personally think we should sell becchio to Middlesborough for a couple million and buy Keogh for 500k, especially with Somma coming back as well but obviously that wont happen and Grayson wont play keogh above Becchio so I really dont see a point in buying him to be honest although i think he is a better player. I would really love to see us bring in a LW, CM and CB possibly even Lichaj at RB as well especially if the loans go back. I know that seems like a lot of players for a Janaury transfer window but this really shoulda been done in the Summer to be fair
Josh I think the problem is Danny Pugh is a very likable player, he works hard, doesnt moan and is good for the dressing room so its hard to critisize him but I just think in the same way has Hughes, he just hasnt enough ability And with you, i'd snap boro's arm off for two million quid
2m for a 19-goal-a-season man who's still done relatively well this season? 2m that we all know would end up poured into the black hole of the East Stand? 2m thrown away along with one of the division's best players to our closest promotion rivals? With all respect, that's a dreadful idea. I can't imagine many worse transfers that we could do to be honest.
Becchio will get you goals in the championship if he is played. Bates has already written the story off as bollocks anyway, saying he wouldnt sell to Boro, especially not last terms top scorer. I wouldnt take 2 million for Becchio, even if we got 2 million to spend to replace him (which we wouldnt!) we would struggle to get someone in that will get around the 20 goal mark for that price
